History:
(Howard the Duck I#3 (fb) - BTS) - Count Macho was trained by Master C'haaj,
receiving upon graduation a dragon medallion...for only $5.98.
(Howard the Duck I#3) - A young boy, excited after watching a new Kung Fu movie, began mimicking the actor's moves in the streets. One of his moves came close to Count Macho who, unconcerned that the boy was only playing and was certainly no threat to him, struck the youth, smashing him through the window of a diner. Determined that the boy must pay the price for affronting a master of the deadly arts, Macho took no heed of attempts to sway him otherwise and began beating the boy. When someone objected, one of Macho's allies struck him down, eventually causing the fight to escalate to involve the whole restaurant. Eventually, someone (presumably Macho or one of his goons), pulled a knife and stabbed the boy. The shock of this action dissolved the fight, and Macho and his goons left, laughing, as others tried to save the boy. Howard tackled Macho from behind, but was knocked out by a punch to the beak. In the struggle, Howard inadvertently ripped off Macho's medallion.
The boy was taken to the hospital and died, while Howard sought the means to stop Macho. He received training from Master C'haaj as well, but as he did so, Macho kidnapped Howard's lover, Beverly Switzler, threatening to kill her if he did not return his medallion. Howard confronted Macho atop a building under construction as instructed. Howard's new skills allowed him to make short work of Macho's goons, and he then taunted Macho, calling him a sissy. Enraged beyond speech, Macho leapt at and dropped kicked Howard, who survived nearly plunging from atop the building. Macho attacked next with nunchaku--which Howard tore from his grip in mid-swing, and then by hurling a knife, which Howard caught in mid air. Furious, Macho leapt at Howard again, but the Duck side-stepped his assault, and Macho plunged to his apparent death on the ground below.
Comments: Created by Steve Gerber, John Buscema, and Steve Leialoha.
Macho is VERY unlikely to have been a real Count, but likely just took the name after Count Dante or some other martial artist of the era.
