DAZE
Real Name: Unrevealed
Identity/Class: Unrevealed, presumably mutant or mutate
Occupation: Assassin, creator of sleeper agents
Affiliations: Operative of the Fold
Enemies: Mr. Reynard, Warrant
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: None known
Base of Operations: Unrevealed; active in New York City when captured
First Appearance: Web of Spider-Man Annual#10 (1994), second story
Powers/Abilities: Daze can mesmerize
anyone into obeying his commands; he is known to have hypnotized
several "sleeper agents" who can be triggered into
activity, indicating that his power has long-term uses. Daze can
also use his power on himself to keep from revealing information
under the influence of sodium pentothal. His hypnotic gaze
operates on a frequency which can be filtered out by infra-red
goggles such as those worn by Warrant.
History: (prior to Web of Spider-Man
Annual#10) - As an
operative of the criminal/political cabal known as the Fold, Daze
hypnotizes several sleeper agents to be ready for activation at
command.
(Web of Spider-Man
Annual#10) - Sent by the Fold to assassinate
Senator Gaines, Daze uses his power to get past the guards and is
on the verge of commanding the senator to leap to his death when
the cybernetic mercenary Warrant, hired to protect Gaines,
arrives and prevents him from jumping. Daze's mesmerized guards
give Warrant a brief fight, then Daze himself attempts to
mesmerize the mercenary, but Warrant's goggles screen out the
effect, and he stuns the assassin. Warrant's partner Reynard
administers sodium pentathol to Daze to learn who sent him, but
after mentioning the Fold and its sleeper agents, he goes into
convulsions as he fights the drug's effect. Daze is presumably
jailed shortly thereafter.
Comments: Created by Terry Kavanaugh,
Joey Cavalieri, Alex Saviuk, and Don Hudson.
A very minor villain with a power that, as seen in Avengers (Vol. III)#6, is relatively common in the Marvel Universe, Daze seems to have been created simply to give Warrant (a character for whom Terry Kavanaugh and others evidently had high hopes) a lead-in to the Fold.
Is it my imagination, or does he resemble Arthur Shaman?
That's the name of the second-string Mesmero who once tangled with the
Defenders, while working for A.I.M. Respectfully yours: Carycomix
