History: (Thor I#431 (fb)) - Burt was a loutish construction worker who took out his frustrations on his wife Ann and son Dirk. Dirk grew up loathing his father, and would eventually become the criminal known as the Wrecker as a result.
(Spectacular Spider-Man II#126 (fb) - BTS) - Burt walked out on Dirk and Ann when Dirk was only four. Ann believed Burt to be dead.
(Thunderstrike#14/2) - After the Wrecker returned from an exile to another dimension, the police team Code: Blue determined that he was only kept on Earth by his own power of concentration. They decided to set up a meeting between the Wrecker and his father in order to send the Wrecker back, and managed to locate Burt at the Sunny Hills Retirement Home.
Burt asked Code: Blue for money to help them stop the Wrecker, but was refused. Code: Blue set up a barrier which they could drop from the ceiling to protect him against the Wrecker. When the Wrecker appeared he blamed his father for everything that he was. Burt responded that the Wrecker was weak, and cited his life of crime instead of honest work as an example. He told him that he should have beaten him more instead of less. Just as the Wrecker was about to kill him, Code: Blue dropped their barrier. Before the Wrecker could break through, Burt died of a heart attack, and the Wrecker returned to his dimension of exile.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Ann Garthwaite was the wife of Burt Garthwaite and mother of Dirk Garthwaite. She believed her husband to be dead after he walked out on them when Dirk was four, and she raised Dirk alone from then on. After Dirk became the Wrecker, he sent all of the money he stole to her to pay for medical expenses, but she knew that it was dirty money and never spent it. As she lay dying in her apartment, she was visited by Spider-Woman, and passed along to her a note for her son explaining how she felt about his criminal activities. She then died. The Wrecker was overwrought when he learned that his mother had never spent the money he sent her.
