History: (Incredible Hulk II#149 (fb) ) - The Inheritor was a cockroach, evolved into humanoid form by the Genetic Accelerator of the High Evolutionary to become one of his New Men. However, the Inheritor resented humanity, which had ruled Earth for a relatively short time compared to the length of time cockroaches had been present on Earth. The Inheritor refused to serve in the High Evolutionary's Knights of Wundagore or live by his code, and so the High Evolutionary banished it into space. Without the radiation which had empowered it, the Inheritor's memories began to fade. Eventually a meteor struck its ship and knocked it off course, sending it instead on a course with Earth.
(Incredible Hulk II#149) - The Inheritor's ship crashed to Earth in the deserts of New Mexico. It easily survived the crash, but could only remember its goal to exterminate humanity, and none of its origins. The Inheritor wandered aimlessly, destroying any humans in its path, eventually encountering a truck carrying cargo from Project: Greenskin. After destroying the truck, it was exposed to its radioactive cargo, which allowed the beginnings of its memory to return. It followed the road to the truck's intended destination, Project: Greenskin, in hopes of finding more radiation.
The Inheritor attacked the Project, easily overpowering and destroying anything the military sent against it. Eventually, he destroyed the equipment which kept Bruce Banner sedated, allowing him to become the Hulk. The Inheritor regained its full memory after breaking open a store of radioactive material, but was then attacked by the Hulk. The two fought evenly, but the Inheritor felt its strength fading, and so it goaded the Hulk into throwing it towards the most powerful source of radiation in the Project. However, this source was the storage depot for the radiation draining equipment that Ross had intended to use to drain off the gamma radiation from Banner. The equipment drained off the radiation from the Inheritor, causing it to devolve rapidly until it was no more than an ordinary cockroach. The Hulk followed the Inheritor, seeking to continue the battle, but finding only a harmless insect, he left it and went on his way.
Comments: Created by Archie Goodwin and Herb Trimpe.
The Inheritor is still around, and most likely carries some of the energies which transformed it originally. It has almost certainly linked up with what can only be described as the Cockroach Conspiracy
The Inheritor has a profile in World War Hulk: The Gamma Files.
