KKALLAKKU

Real Name: Kkallakku

Identity/Class: Demon

Affiliations: None

Base of Operations: currently unknown; formerly an unnamed pocket dimension; the Halls of Fear; mobile throughout the known universe

First Appearance: Dr. Strange: Sorcerer Supreme#31/2 (July, 1991)

Powers/Abilities: Kkallakku is apparently immune to the effects of disease, aging, and conventional injury. Under certain circumstances, it can travel between dimensions. In addition, it possesses similar abilities to its spawn, the Fear-Eaters, though most likely amplified to an uncertain degree:
It exists entirely off of fear of other beings. It can phase extra-dimensionally, assuming an immaterial form, and merge with a host. Once merged, it can read the minds of it host, determining its greatest fears. Kkallakku then can generate hallucinations that cause the host to confront its greatest fear. Kkallakku draws strength from this and will continue to cause intense fear until its victim either dies or overcomes its fears. If a Fear-Eater is deprived of fear for too long of a period, it will die of starvation--it is uncertain if this is the case with Kkallakku.
The Fear-Eaters appear to be immune to any form of physical attack, and the only way a host can repel them is by overcoming its fears. The Fear-Eaters can survive in any environment, from the vacuum of space to the most hostile of atmospheric conditions. A Fear-Eater teleported the Silver Surfer from deep space to the orbit of Earth. It is uncertain how far a Fear-Eater can travel without using a host form.

History: The origins of Kkallakku are unknown. It is apparently some form of demon, which has spawned the race of Kkallakki, or Fear-Eaters. Its abilities grant it the title of one of the Fear Lords.

(Dr. Strange: Sorcerer Supreme#31/2-33/2) - Kkallakku journeyed to the Halls of Fear in response to a summons from the Dweller-in-Darkness. It joined with the other Fear Lords in preparation of a plot to overtake Earth.

(Dr. Strange: Sorcerer Supreme#38)-Kkallakku and the Fear Lords initiated their assault on Earth.

(Dr. Strange: Sorcerer Supreme#39) - Kkallakku summoned a legion of Fear-Eaters from a space warp. As part of a plot of the Fear Lords they assaulted the people of Manhattan, generating and feeding off of their fear. Dr. Strange withdrew the collective fear from the Fear-Eaters' victims, and pulled it into himself. The Fear-Eaters all followed Strange, despite the commands of Kkallakku, the fear energy drawing them like moths to the flame. Strange opened a portal to another dimension and fled through it, allowing the Fear-Eaters to follow him. He then teleported back to Earth, leaving the Fear-Eaters behind in that unnamed realm. Without its legions to assist it, Kkallakku apparently fled.

(Journey into Mystery I#633) - The Fear Lords met to discuss the Serpent's recent attacks on Earth. Nightmare was not present at the meeting as he planned to harvest the fear left behind by the Serpent for himself.

(Journey into Mystery I#636) - Loki and Leah tricked the Fear Lords into a meeting to tell them about Nightmare's scheme to harvest fear the Serpent brought to Earth in a crown to become the King of Fear resulting in an endless battle over the crown between the Fear Lords in Nightmare's realm.

(Journey into Mystery I#645 (fb) - BTS) - Loki tipped of Mephisto to the predicament of the Fear Lords. Mephisto interfered and overpowered the Dweller-in-Darkness, the current holder, to take the crown for himself. He secured the Fear Lords' alliance and subservience by feedig them a ration of the fear collected by the crown. Mephisto hoped to gain enough power to fill Satan's empty throne eventually.

(Journey into Mystery I#645 - BTS) - Loki sacrificed his thoughts and dreams to destroy the crown as it had been created hy his mind in the first place. Without the crown the Fear Lords no longer served Mephisto and chased him away.
