Base of Operations: Unnamed alien world; currently asleep in a cave outside of New York
First Appearance: Strange Tales I#98 (July, 1962)
Powers/Abilities: The alien champion was an exceptionally gifted creature in all areas of physical and mental challenges. He could out-wrestle four men at once,
strike baseballs so hard that they landed in other countries, lift a weight lifter while he lifted over 1000 pounds, get hole-in-one after hole-in-one in golf, climb
the Swiss Alps, train animals, swim the entire Pacific Ocean faster than a nuclear-powered vessel, and out-play over 8 chess players at once.
History: (Strange Tales I#98)- The alien champion came to earth at the United Nations building, and declared to the earth's population that his race would soon invade the earth, but
that if any human could best him at any physical or mental feat, the invasion would be called off. First, he tried wrestling, and outfought four wrestlers at once. Next, he played baseball and
knocked the ball 1,000 miles from the stadium! Another ball landed in Brazil. Russia then stepped in, and challenged him to best their weight lifters. He not only lifted the more than 1,000
pound dumbbell their weight lifter carried, but lifted the weight lifter and podium at the same time! Next he tried golf, and made over 5 hole-in-ones. After that, he climbed the Swiss Alps,
easily speeding past the human climbers he was competing against, despite his seemingly large bulk. He also went on to train animals to perform outrageous stunts, outswam a nuclear-powered
vessel in the Pacific Ocean, and beat over 8 champion chess players at once.
Finally, reporter Frank Taylor stepped in, and challenged the alien to one last contest. He claimed that one of earth's greatest sports was sleeping, and that humans would try to outsleep
one another. The record, according to Taylor, was 1,000,000 years. The alien proudly declared that he would sleep for 2,000,000 years! The alien then went to sleep in a cave, and earth was
saved. Guards were placed on the cave in case he should awake, but if he should sleep the full 2,000,000 years, he would find that by then, earth would be able to compete more fairly against him.
Comments: Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

CLARIFICATIONS: Frank Taylor was a somewhat lazy reporter, who was often nagged by his wife Helen for lying about the house instead of being more active. He was one of the reporters
present when the alien made his declaration to the United Nations, and observed as the alien bested earth in sport after sport. Finally, he challenged the alien, and claimed
that earth's greatest contest is sleeping, and that men would compete to see that who could stay asleep for the longest. He said that the record was 1,000,000 years. The alien
then went to sleep for 2,000,000 years to try and beat that record. Frank noted that even if the alien should sleep for 2,000,000 years, by then earth would be far enough advanced
1that they would be able to handle the alien's people. Frank saved the earth through his laziness, and was heralded by the world (and his wife) as a hero. -Strange Tales I#98
