Powers/Abilities: All of Ozamm's powers came from the advanced machinery of his flying saucer. The saucer provided him with a personal force field and the ability to teleport, levitate, magnetize or transform matter. It also gave him the powers of mind control, creation of illusions, and the ability to increase his size to titanic proportions. Ozamm activated individual powers by merely thinking about them, but could only use these powers while the flying saucer's machines were turned on. The machinery created huge surges of electricity every time a power was activated.

History: (Tales to Astonish I#39/2 (fb) - BTS) - Ozamm studied the planet Earth for months before deciding to conquer it.

(Tales to Astonish I#39/2) - Ozamm set his flying saucer down in New York City. He announced himself as the new ruler of Earth, and easily fended off an angry crowd, a few cops, and the National Guard. Ozamm began demonstrating his wide variety of powers to cower the Earthlings, including lifting the Hudson River from it's bed and briefly floating it over the city. Joe Baxter snuck into his flying saucer, and turned off the machine powering Ozamm. The now helpless Ozamm was carted off and forced to perform in a freakshow.

Comments: Created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Don Heck.

As with many 1950's and 1960's Marvel monster stories, Ozamm is not confirmed as part of Earth-616 continuity, but there's nothing to exclude him either.

This story was reprinted in Where Monsters Dwell#29.

How did Joe Baxter know how to turn off the machinery in Ozamm's flying saucer? It's highly advanced technology, yet Joe pushes a random button, just knowing it's the "off" switch. Oh, well.

Joe Baxter

Joe was a factory mechanic who found his skills were becoming useless as new machines were invented to replace workers. After being fired from a string of jobs he moved to New York City to find work. Ozamm landed on Earth just as Joe arrived in the city. Joe noticed that every time Ozamm used his powers, electrical appliances began short-circuiting. He deduced that huge surges of electricity were the cause, and he found the source in Ozamm's flying saucer. He turned off the saucer's machinery, depriving Ozamm of his powers. Joe's act of heroism made him a sought after employee, and he was immediately hired into a new factory job.
