History: Owen Segar was a down-on-his-luck ex-navy pilot and SEAL, living in a veterans shelter, offered a way out by the Rush Club, he attempted to double-cross them and escape with the armor they had given him.
(War Machine#12 (fb))- Carson Rowntree, Gunship of the Rush Club, visited Owen Segar in a veterans shelter in Philadelphia, and talked to him for hours, convincing him to become the groups next opponent. Segar agreed, on the condition that the battle take place close to the city.
(War Machine#12)- Two weeks later, after being given time to familiarise himself with the Quarry armor, Segars battle with Gunship began in an abandoned industrial area, with Quarry initially making no effort to defend himself, allowing Gunship to grow overconfident, then shot him down and flew off, informing him that he wasnt interested in the fight, just the armor the Rush Club had given him.
Segar was shocked that Gunship actually pursued him into the city, and took a cannon shell to the back, falling into a store. He quickly recovered, only for War Machine to arrive and knock him back down again. After defeating Gunship, War Machine questioned Quarry, unmasking him and being shocked to see he was Segar. Before Segar could answer War Machines questions, the two were struck down by the three members of the Rush Club.
(War Machine#13)- While Locomotive Breath and Sanction battled War Machine, Gunship destroyed the Quarry armor with his shoulder-cannons, and the Rush Club left, believing Segar dead. Segar had escaped the suit, however, and War Machine found him, barely alive, and rushed him to hospital, claiming that Segar was a bystander injured in the battle. As Jim Rhodes, he later questioned Segar about the Rush Club once he had recovered, threatening to reveal the truth of Segars involvement unless he co-operated.
He explained how the Rush Club looked for opponents to fight them, offering big money, and how his military background had made them choose him. Having nothing, and seeing the chance of a big, quick score, he had accepted, but got greedy, figuring he could just escape with the armor, and that the Clubs secrecy would stop them from following him into a city. Segar gave Rhodes a contact address for Carson Rowntree in Baltimore.
(Cvil War: Battle Damage Report#1) - Quarry wasn't aware that he was required to register, even though his powers were based on technology, when the SHRA was passed. It is unknown if he got into trouble.
Comments: Created by by Dan Abnett and Dave Chlystek.
The entire (pre-Slorenia) Rush Club storyline, right down to the recruiting opponents from veterans shelters, is very similar to the movie Hard Target, but Im not sure which came first. This one may not be directed by John Woo, but it does have War Machine rather than Van Damme, at least.
