SECOND ASSEMBLY
MEMBERSHIP: none named. There was a guard and five others.
PURPOSE: creation of their own god to worship and the ending of the Dry Academy's Worldspell
AFFILIATIONS: their god; Dry Academy (formerly; parent group)
ENEMIES: Druid (Anthony Ludgate, aka Dr. Druid), Dry Academy
BASE of OPERATIONS: an old Salvation Army building in the Bowery of New York City
FIRST APPEARANCE: Druid#2 (June, 1995)
TRAITS: According to Nekra,
who claimed to be informed by a woman in San Diego who'd given
birth to five phocomelic oracles: The Second Assembly is a
cannibalistic priesthood who believe that knowledge can be
transferred by foodstuffs. They addictively devour the flesh of
magicians, artists, and of psychopaths and lunatics.
They possess undefined magical abilities which allowed them to
create a living being out of decaying corpses.
Their guard was possibly magically enhanced, and carried two multi-bladed weapons.
HISTORY:
(Druid#3(fb)-BTS) - The Second Assembly split off from the Dry
Academy, because they had no one to worship and because they
believed the Worldspell was a mistake, and that the truth behind
it, 'bleeding through in car crashes, dead rock star and rape and
cannibalism,' was beautiful and should be freed. Seeking to
create their own god, they stole the corpses of several
psychopaths and criminals from the Cult of Kâli (according to
Nekra Sinclair, who said they stole the corpses from her. Since
she'd been only recently resurrected, and since she was
manipulating Druid at the behest of Hellstorm, this may not be
accurate). From these corpses, as well as others, they
fashioned a living being, whom they intended to break the
Wordspell, so that "true reality" could shine through.
(Druid#2) - The Second Assembly's god began as a pile of meat on
a table surrounded by candles. Later, electronic devices were
plugged into it to 'educate' it in the things the Assembly
considered important: Car crashes, the Jonestown massacre, rape,
castration, and death.
(Druid#3) - Across the world people dreampt of the Assembly's god, "their personal messiah oozing from the butchered corpses of geniuses and criminals."
(Druid#2, 3) - Nekra, a priestess of the Cult of Kâli as well as an agent of Hellstorm (and possibly the Dry Academy), recruited Druid to investigate the Second Assembly, both as a test of his power and his potential threat to the Academy (or just in general). Druid's follower located the Second Assembly, slaughtered its guard and its members, and then confronted their god. Their god attempted to convince Druid of the true nature of the Dry Academy, but Druid, seeing it as blasphemy against the Celtic Gods, blew it apart.
COMMENTS: Created by Warren Ellis and Leonardo Manco.
The god of the Second Assembly is unnamed, but
I'd choose the name Carnus, from the word for
meat/flesh.
Myself, I'd name it FRANKENGOD!!!!!!!!!!

this dour profile
Druid was a twisted series, levels above the
work Ellis and Manco did on Hellstorm. You can debate whether the
history, nature, and influence of the Dry Academy is true in the
MU, but it's sort of a moot point., since probably about 10
people read it, and even less remember it. Don't let your
children read these stories.
I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Phocomelic - possessing a developmental anomaly characterized by absence of the proximal portion of a limbor limbs, the hands or feet being attached to the trunk of the body by a single small, irregularly shaped bone.

CLARIFICATIONS:
None.
The Assembly's 'God'
The false god of the Second Assembly was magically born out of a pile of innards taken from the corpses of murderers and geniuses, some of which may have been stolen from the Cult of Kâli in California. It considered itself a rather clever creation -- a personafication of the truth hidden by the Worldspell, intended to damage the spell through its being worshipped by humans. However, it rightly realized that human minds couldn't handle the true unspeakable horror of the world, and believed that the Dry Academy are the ones who should be worshipped for their actions. The god was disappointed that it never got to see the outside world, even through the disconnected television in its chamber.
(Druid#2) - The Second Assembly's god began as a pile of meat on a table surrounded by candles. Later, electronic devices were plugged into it to 'educate' it in the things the Assembly considered important: Car crashes, Jonestown, rape, castration, and death.
(Druid#3) - Across the world people dreampt of the Assembly's god, "their personal messiah oozing from the butchered corpses of geniuses and criminals."
Druid broke into the Assembly's headquarters, slaughtered the cultists present, and broke into the birthing chamber that held the meat god. The god sought to share Its knowledge with Druid so Its creation wouldn't have been entirely pointless, but was killed by Druid out of righteous anger after only sharing part of its knowledge.
