Height: 6'4" History: (Tomb of Dracula I#70 (fb)) - Sometime in the fifth century,
Torgo was a general attempting to defend his country from the
invasion of the legendary Attilan the Hun. Torgo fell in battle,
the victim of a seemingly mortal wound. Believed to be dead,
Torgo was buried alive. An old hag was paid to pray over his
grave, but she was actually a vampire. She dug up the grave and
drank Torgo's blood, leading to his transformation into a
vampire. His activities over the next several centuries are
unknown. (Tomb of Dracula I#68) - During a brief period of time when the demon
Satan (see comments) had transformed Dracula back into human form, Torgo managed
to take over the title of vampire lord. After Dracula was
returned to vampiric form, he found his former minions were no
longer his to control. Seeking their leader, Dracula was
confronted by Torgo, who proved able to control even the former
vampire-lord. Torgo revealed his plans to lead his vampire horde
to overtake humanity, farming them as slaves and a source of
nourishment. Unwilling to acknowledge any other as master,
Dracula called on the ancient rite of a dual to the death to
challenge Torgo's rule. Feeling there was no way Dracula could
overcome the lord of the vampires, Torgo accepted the challenge.
To strengthen the odds even further, Torgo used a knife in the
battle. Ultimately, Dracula's determination, inner fires, and
pride in his own heritage enabled him to overcome Torgo, stabbing
him through the heart with his own blade. As Torgo disintegrated
into dust, Dracula regained his previous title and full power. Comments: Created by Marv Wolfman
(writer) and Gene Colan (artist). In this case, Mephisto was actually posing as Satan in this
Tomb of Dracula storyline. Topaz was in Hell with Dracula when his powers were
taken away, and Topaz was next seen in Doctor Strange II#75 in Mephisto's Hell.
The Official Handbook Deluxe Edtion and Update '89 entries for Dracula and Topaz
confirm that Mephisto was involved. It was quite ironic that Dracula regained his
title only to perish at the hands of Quincy Harker minutes later. In Blade III#12 a prophecy was fulfilled that brought back all vampires that ever died. This most likely included Torgo as well. We'll have to wait if he resurfaces. His last name was revealed in the Vampires profile in OHOTMU A-Z HC#12. His former base of operations was revealed in his profile in Vampires: The Marvel Undead#1 (December, 2011). CLARIFICATIONS: Appearances: Last updated:
