History:
(Journey Into Mystery I#116/1) - By order of Odin, Thor and
Loki were to be transported to the deadly land of Skornheim, to take
part in the "Trial of the Gods"--they were to be unarmed, save for their
wits and natural strength; forbidding weapons, Odin had taken Thor's
hammer, but the deceitful Loki secretly carried a pouch containing
magical Norn Stones concealed beneath his tunic.
While in Skornheim, Thor and Loki made their way past some of the land's natural obstacles, then they found themselves confronted by the massive Yagg the Slayer, who unleashed energy blasts at them with his gauntlets. Loki fled from Yagg's lethal bolts by using the power of the Norn Stones to levitate away.
Furious at having lost an intended victim, Yagg turned his attention to Thor, determined to make sure the thunder god would not escape. But after dodging another of Yagg's bolts, Thor tore a rock from a cliff-side and hurled it at Yagg's helmeted head, knocking him unconscious.
Comments: Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
Because Yagg's helmet had a face guard, the features of his face were concealed in all 5 of the panels in which he actually appeared.--Ron Fredricks
Yagg supposedly died during the Ragnarok in Thor II#85.
