First Appearance: The Untold Legend of Captain Marvel#1 (April, 1997)
Powers/Abilities: Zen-Pram possessed advanced military and tactical knowledge. As a member of the Kree race, he possessed enhanced strength and durability. Zen-Pram also possessed a remarkable strength of will which allowed him to retain some of his personality after his Brood transformation. As a Brood, Zen-Pram possessed superhuman strength, speed and durability. He also possessed a bony exoskeleton, large, Razor-sharp teeth and a poisonous tail-stinger.
Weaknesses: Due to his experiences with Devros, Zen-Pram became prejudiced against Blue Kree. This apparently had no effect on either his ability to command or his interactions with Blue Kree individuals under his command.
History: (Untold legend of Captain Marvel#1 (fb, BTS))- Zen-Pram served under the command of Devros during the Mantrox Campaign, and witnessed first-hand Devros callous bigotry toward Pink Kree "He made little secret of the disgust he felt for we Pink-Skins, nor his willingness to throw as many of our lives as it took against a problem to get it solved." This led to Zen-Pram's utter hatred of Devros.
(Untold Legend of Captain Marvel#1)- Zen-Pram's vessel, the Pama, was assigned to retrieve or eliminate Devros (who had vanished in the Absolom Sector, Brood space) to prevent his military knowledge from falling into enemy hands. Zen-Pram explained his history with the Grand Admiral, and expressed his wish that they find Devros' bones bleaching in the sun. When the Pama came across a Shi'ar ship under attack by Skrulls, Zen-Pram allowed Captain Mar-Vell and his men to render assistance, even though their vessel was on a secret mission. The Shi'ar involved turned out to be Princess Deathbird and four members of the Imperial Guard (Fang, Oracle, Smasher and Starbolt). Mar-Vell was wounded in the battle, but was carried safely back to the Pama by Fang.
(Untold Legend of Captain Marvel#2)- After parting with the Shi'ar, the Pama discovered Devros' crashed vessel, and a dead Acanti Brood-ship. After landing the Pama on the unnamed world where the vessels had crashed, the Kree began a search for survivors. They were quickly captured by the Brood, and taken before their Queen and "King" Devros. As the Queen implanted the prisoners with eggs, Zen-Pram cursed Devros as a racist and a traitor. Devros proudly accepted the term racist, but believed that his actions were for the betterment of his race. Just then, Mar-Vell broke free, killing the Queen and escaping with Una, leaving Zen-Pram and the others behind.
(Untold Tales of Captain Marvel#3 (BTS))- The Brood egg within Zen-Pram hatched, transforming him into a Brood, though he fought it admirably.
(Untold Legend of Captain Marvel#3)- When Mar-Vell returned to the Pama to confront Devros, a Brood Warrior attacked him. After he beat the beast down, it uttered his name. Mar-Vell realized, to his horror, that it was Zen-Pram. Mar-Vell mercifully killed him, then stood silently for a moment, and saluted his fallen Commander.
Comments: Created by Tom Brevoort, Mike Kanterovich, Scott Kolins, John Lowe, and John Kalis.
Zen-Pram was an honorable character, despite his prejudice against Blue Kree. He revealed his ship's presence, in violation of orders, to save the Shi'ar vessel. It was pretty touching when Mar-Vell was forced to kill him to save him from the Brood, and then stood over him in salute to a fallen warrior.
It is unclear which Fang was the Imperial Guardsman involved, as all members of that race shown so far were referred to as "Fang", including the females. Luis’ theory that the Fang might use pheromones to identify one another, making it impossible for other races to know their true individual names, seems the most likely explanation for this. What is known is that one Imperial Guardsman called Fang, serving Deathbird in her bid to assume control of the Shi'ar Empire, was infected and transformed by the Brood in Uncanny X-Men#162. It is unknown if this was the same Fang as appeared in Untold Legend of Captain Marvel, or another of his race.
