A.C.E.
(Asuza Cynergetic Engineering)
CORPORATION
Membership: Mr. Asuza, Yahn Cobert, Mr. Thule, Watcher, others unidentified (long comb-over; long-haired woman with tech glasses; single bionic eye female; another group and others)
Purpose: Apparently the development of advanced technology
Aliases: None
Affiliations: Bad Boys (Hadrian, Little Pieces, Plastique), Dove Soldiers (Farcus, Jo-Jo, Kozinski)
Enemies: Motormouth (Harley Davis), Mys-Tech, Warheads (unspecified troop)
Base of Operations: ACE Corporation facility on the planet Matricca Scoppio on the outer rim of the Crab Nebula, Milky Way Galaxy
First Appearance: (Mentioned) Overkill#6 (July 3, 1992);
(seen) Motormouth & Killpower#6 (November, 1992)
Powers/Abilities: The ACE Corporation was among the best at making anything on Matricca Scoppio, where they were legendary for the factories and their making of products.
In additions to scanners able to detect various energy signatures, they created the Ultra-Phase Psycho-Circuitry that was dubbed the MOPED (Mind Operated PErsonal Dematerialization) units.
They employed a number of
scientists and workers, as well as a number of field agents/warriors,
including the Bad Boys and the Dove Soldiers.
History:
(Motormouth#1 (fb) - BTS / Motormouth & Killpower#7 (fb) - BTS / Overkill#6) -
On Matricca Scoppio, the ACE Corporation's head of research, Yahn
Cobert, developed the leading edge of the Ultra-phase Psycho Circuitry.
(Motormouth & Killpower#7 (fb) - BTS / Overkill#6) - Via a wormhole into the ACE laboratory, all five of the phase-units were stolen by Mys-Tech Warheads.
(Overkill#6) - Presumably in the process of the theft, but possibly subsequently to the theft, all evidence of phase-unit technology was destroyed from ACE's labs, along with Yahn Cobert himself.
(Motormouth & Killpower#1 (fb) - BTS) - Mys-Tech designated the phase unit technology as MOPED (Mind Operated PErsonal Dematerialization) units.
(Motormouth & Killpower#6 - BTS) -
The ACE Corporation's head, Mr. Asuza, instructed that he was to be
notified immediately if the phase unit technology appeared on Matricca
Scoppio.
(Motormouth#1 - BTS) - Mys-Tech’s tests under Laarson’s Project
Chronos Cycle resulted in the deaths of all subjects and the
destruction of three of the five MOPED units. Recognizing the
requirements for the MOPED units, Laarson had a MOPED unit configured
into the form of a pair of sneakers and sent to London street urchin
Harley Davis.
Killpower -- an agent of Mys-Tech raised/trained by Oonagh Mullarkey -- was given the fifth MOPED unit and sent to recover the other unit.
(Motormouth#3 - BTS) - Killpower saved the injured Motormouth, building her MOPED unit into her body as part of the reconstruction.
(Motormouth & Killpower#5 - BTS) - After Motormouth destroyed a robotic attacker, Killpower read a label on its remnants:
"ACE Corporation
Matricca Scoppio"
...and he recognized the group as the people who had made the MOPED technology. Using that
technology, Motormouth initiated a transport to Matricca Scoppio.
(Motormouth & Killpower#6) - Unaware that they were being tracked by Mys-Tech, Motormouth and Killpower materialized on Matricca Scoppio.
(Motormouth & Killpower#6 - BTS) - On Earth, a Mys-Tech agent reported the two's location to Techno-Wizard Gudrun Tyburn who instructed that the coordinates be given to the Psycho-Warriors and for them to be sent there now.
(Motormouth & Killpower#6) - Meanwhile,
on Matricca Scoppio, the ACE Corporation's Watcher reported positive
tracking of two units in Sector AK-4D7 to Mr. Thule, noting that they
had just appeared out of nowhere. Recognizing their method of arrival
as belonging to MOPED technology, Thule reported this to Mr. Asuza, who
instructed that he be picked up in seconds. While another agent had
heard the conversation and sent a unit to pick up Asuza, Watcher
reported getting "major phostetik interference, as if someone or something was teleporting in right near the first two.
Indeed, a Mys-Tech ship carrying multiple Psycho-Warriors appeared near Motormouth and Killpower, the latter of whom recognized them. While Motormouth destroyed one, Killpower was incapacitated, captured, and taken aboard their ship. As the ship took off, Motormouth realized that Killpower's MOPED unit had fallen to the ground, and she recovered it. The Mys-Tech ship transported back to Earth.
Having observed and recorded the battle remotely, Mr. Thule appreciated that the girl had both MOPED units, and he ordered the Dove Soldiers to confront her; they arrived as she was preparing to travel back to Earth to rescue Killpower.
(Motormouth & Killpower#7) - Motormouth swiftly buried the Dove Soldiers by causing an avalanche with a sonic force blast, but she was almost instantly beset by the Bad Boys (also agents of the ACE Corporation) who captured and restrained her, although they could only find one MOPED unit (as they were unaware that Killpower had saved her life by implanting the MOPED unit's components within her while on the planet Tekron).
(Motormouth & Killpower#7 (fb) - BTS) - The Bad Boys delivered Motormouth to Mr. Asuza.
(Motormouth & Killpower#7) -
While noting that Motormouth did not look like one of the barbarians
who had stolen the MOPED units from them, Asuza concluded she must be
in league with those who did, and he could have to make do with being
unpleasant to her instead.
Desperate to retrieve the second MOPED unit, Asuza requested Pieces' knife and cut off the muzzle/whatever restraining her sonic powers and insisted she tell him where it was. In response, however, she released a sonic blast that blew off Asuza's head.
Exiting the ACE Corporation complex, Motormouth briefly encountered the Dove Soldiers before transporting back to Earth.
Comments: Created by Graham Marks, Gary Frank (and Dave Taylor), and Cam Smith as part of the Marvel UK imprint.
I am not sure exactly what is
the deal with the members of the ACE Corporation and its members. They
are completely human-looking, although in a somewhat
futuristic-technology appearance, with apparently cyborg/bionic or
other tech enhancements readily available. Are they humans who left
Earth and/or came from a future reality? Are they humanoid
extraterrestrials? The name of Hadrian of the Bad Boys being associated
with Hadrian's Wall makes them seem like they may have come from the
UK, but it may just be that the UK writer did that without intending
them to be from Earth.
I still have a little bit to do before I get to the
Matricca Scoppio profile, but it was a factory world in the Motormouth
story and then apparently dominated by much more mechanical cyborg
creatures in the Death's Head & Die-Cut story. The latter story may
have taken place in an alternate future.
The Motormouth#6-7 stories have the ACE
staff consistently refer to the MOPED technology as ultra-phase
units rather than MOPED units, which leads me to believe that
MOPED was the designation Mys-Tech gave the ultra-phase technology.
That being said, the Overkill#6 entry on the MOPED technology refers to
it ACE having developed the MOPED units and describes it as ultra-phase
psycho-circuitry. My take is that the article was written from the
perspective of Mys-Tech, and they were talking about their MOPED units
and just crediting the ACE Corporation for having developed them.
That fits nicely with the fact that the Overkill
profile refers to the world from which the MOPED units were stolen as "an unnamed Type 3 green planet in the outer gas rim of the Crab Nebula."
When Motormouth and Killpower arrive on that planet, the omniscient
narrator identifies that would as Matricca Scoppio, after which a
Mys-Tech who had been tracking Motormouth and Killpower located them
and stated, "the planet's in the outer gas rim of the Crab Nebula...it has no name...merely listed as a type 3, capable of supporting life."
Mys-Tech, for some reason, where unaware of the name of Matricca Scoppio, the "legendary factory planet."
Or not...but that's how I wrote the profile...
Synergetic (and presumably what they were going with with "cynergetic) means: involving the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects:
Big Thanks to Loki for providing the Overkill#6 MOPED fact file. The MOPED tech will get a profile at some point...but not anytime soon.

(Motormouth & Killpower#6) - Unaware that they were being tracked by Mys-Tech, Motormouth and Killpower materialized on Matricca Scoppio. Recognizing their
method of arrival
as belonging to ultra-phase unit (MOPED) technology, Thule reported
this to Mr. Asuza, who
instructed that he be picked up. Mr. Thule told Asuza that a unit would
be there in minutes, but Mr. Asuza insisted it be seconds, and Thule
assured him it was taken care of. After hanging up, Thule shouted at the others that if someone didn't tell him now if that unit was on the way, everyone was in trouble. Another agent had
heard the conversation and sent a unit to pick up Asuza, and he
reported this to Thule, who was pleased that at least SOMEONE was
eavesdropping. (Motormouth & Killpower#6 (fb) - BTS) - Thule ordered the Dove Soldiers sent to recover the ultra-phase units. He also presumably had the Bad Boys sent as back up in case the Dove Soldiers failed. (Motormouth & Killpower#6 - BTS) -Mys-Tech Psycho-Warriors arrived on Matricca Scoppio and captured Killpower, although his MOPED unit fell to the ground and was recovered by Motormouth.(Motormouth & Killpower#6) - Having observed the
battle remotely, Mr. Thule stated, "If
the last five minutes of imaging haven't been recorded, we're all in
big trouble -- no one who didn't see it will ever believe a word of it."
Watcher then reported that the girl was still present. Already aware of
this, Thule considered it bizarre that the reading still showed two
ultra-phase units but only one carrier. He then asked Watcher where the
Dove Soldiers were, and Watcher reported their arrival. (Motormouth & Killpower#7 - BTS) - Motormouth swiftly defeated the Dove Soldiers but was captured and muzzled by the Bad Boys, who brought her to Asuza...whom she slew. --Motormouth & Killpower#6Note: As Motormouth is not some sociopathic killer and she spared the Bad Boys and the Dove Soldiers, there is no reason to think she went looking for and slew Mr. Thule. |
Watcher wears a some sort of tech-glasses, or
perhaps they are bionic implants, which grant him advanced viewing,
scanning, and detection abilities. (Motormouth & Killpower#6) - After Motormouth and Killpower arrived on Matricca Scoppio, Watcher reported positive tracking of two units in Sector AK-4D7 to Mr. Thule, noting that they had just appeared out of nowhere. Recognizing their method of arrival as belonging to MOPED technology, Thule reported this to Mr. Asuza. Watcher then reported that he was getting "major phostetik interference, as if someone or something was teleporting in right near the first two," (which was Mys-Tech's Psycho-Warriors arriving). battle remotely alongside Mr. Thule, Watcher then reported that the girl was still present.
Already aware of this, Thule asked
Watcher where the Dove Soldiers were, and Watcher reported that they were approaching the girl now. (Motormouth & Killpower#6 - BTS) - The Dove Soldiers confronted Motormouth as she was preparing to travel back to Earth to rescue Killpower. --Motormouth & Killpower#6Note: The "r" is cropped out in the image, but the image of Mr. Thule at his computer in Thule's sub-profile shows him asking "Watcher where are those Dove Soldiers?" And this guy answers (as seen on the image to the right), so Watcher he is!!! Watcher is shown in multiple images in the main profile as well. |
She worked in the same room as Mr. Thule and presumably served under him. These three worked in the same room as Mr. Thule and presumably served
under him. They weren't directly involved in anything going on with
