ALEX

Affiliations: Dr. Noc, General Ulysses and his demon-mutated troops (including McDonald);
formerly New Mutants (Cannonball/Sam Guthrie,
Gosamyr, Magik/Illyana Rasputin, Mirage/Dani Moonstar, Sunspot/Roberto DaCosta, Warlock/technarch, Wolfsbane/Rahne Sinclair), X-Factor (Angel/Archangel/Death/Warren Worthington,
Beast/Hank McCoy, Cyclops/Scott Summers, Iceman/Bobby Drake, Marvel
Girl/Jean Grey), X-Men (Colossus/Peter Rasputin, Dazzler/Alison Blaire, Havok/Alex Summers, Longshot, Psylocke/Betsy Braddock, Rogue/Anna

(Alex; unidentified) New Mutants III#16 (October, 2010);
(identified) New Mutants III#19 (January, 2011)
.
Powers/Abilities: Alex is composed of
some sort of gelatinous material. He most commonly exists in a more
amorphous configuration, although he can adopt human proportions. In his more human form, he
appears to have a skull and skeleton, with eyes, a nasal cavity a mouth
and teeth, with his internal organs visible. When amorphous, some sort of internal organs are visible within his body. He may or may not need to eat, drink or breathe. He can shape his body into a sphere or
something like a large chair, extend a large tendril, form a wave, etc.
He can contain, bind and/or suffocate
others. He can apparently alter his density/durability somewhat; for
example, he could allow Cannonball to blast into his substance but then
prevent him from exiting (or perhaps the energy taken to penetrate his
form initially slowed Cannonball enough that he could not force an
exit). . Weight: Unrevealed (his body composition is unrevealed, and so its density and mass is indeterminate Eyes: They look to either be a light purple Hair: None Unusual Features: Alex is composed of a gelatinous, translucent material; he can assume humanoid configurations although he is more often amorphous. Some sorts of internal organs are visible within his form. |

History:(X-Terminators#1-4/Uncanny X-Men I#236,239-242/X-Factor I#34-37/New Mutants I#71-73 - mostly BTS and completely unidentified) - With the limbo realm Otherplace, S'ym instructed N'astirh to find and steal thirteen power-filled babies
(beings of both purity and great potential power) and
to bring them to the chosen place (Manhattan's Times Square) for the
performance of his rite and the
attainment of his purpose: the sacrifice of the infants would allow
S'ym to hold open the mystic portal to allow his demonic hordes to
invade and conquer Earth.
N'astirh's hordes (the N'asteris)
gathered the mutant children and performed the rite, but the New
Mutants and X-Terminators disrupted the ritual and rescued most of the
children. The Goblin Queen and N'astirh subsequently attempted to
sacrifice the infant Nathan Christopher and three other of the Inferno
babies to reopen the portal, but the X-Men and X-Factor thwarted this
plot. Nanny and Orphan-Maker attempted to abduct the babies, but the
heroes fought them off and then turned the mutant babies over the US
government.
Comments: Inferno babies created by Louise Simonson, and various others
Trista created by Zeb Wells and Leonard Kirk.
I don't think we have any reason to believe that the original names of the babies were known by the demons or by the government agents who recovered them. So, Alex could be his original name, or it could be what he was named by those working with him.
Alex could have been destroyed by
the N'Garai masters alongside General Ulysses, but that was not shown,
so there's no reason to confirm him as deceased
It's hard to believe the group never got a better name than the "Inferno Babies..." How about the Infernals, or something...
Alex was one of the
least-developed characters in the group. Nonetheless, he -- along with
Bob, Shauna, Toko & Trista -- is one of the few members of the
"Inferno Babies" to survive their encounter with the New Mutants, and
-- at the time I write this profile -- 13 years have passed and none of
them have appeared again.
We see so many heroic stories where Spider-Man or someone fights to uphold this extreme no-killing standard...in this one, however, killing was clearly in-play; Dani Moonstar shoots Loca in the neck with an arrow, and Cannonball deliberately smashes though a monorail, killing Scab, Noc, and others.
