Comments: Created by Eric Hartsell.
Earth-81961's Ant-Man was a
product of Marvel's Spider-Man Magazine's "What If?" section featured
in later issues of the series in which the magazine asked a specific
"What If...?" question to its young readers and they mailed in drawings
in response to the question. In the 18th issue of the magazine, readers
were asked to draw images of "What If...Peter Parker Had Been Bitten by
a Radioactive Ant, Instead of a Spider?" In this particular case, this
Ant-Man was created by then-12-year-old Eric Hartsell from Bridgeport,
Texas.
After Spider-Man Magazine I#10, the issues of the magazine were no longer numbered and were differentiated by the season and year they were published (i.e. "Winter, 1995," for example), as the magazine had moved from monthly publication to seasonal. According to the indicias of the Adventures of Spider-Man & Adventures of the X-Men trade paperbacks (which also reprinted the comic stories exclusive to Spider-Man Magazine), the issue that featured Earth-50963's Ant-Man would have been #18.
While the article in Spider-Man
Magazine I (#18) specifically states that Ant-Man has no enemies, it
also states that his hidden stinger was capable of stunning enemies. So
obviously, he had to have SOME enemies, we just weren't told who or
what they are...
