(fully seen and identified) Micronauts I#47 (November, 1982)
Powers/Abilities: Battleaxe notably had an axe-weapon in place of his right hand. The axe was durable enough to withstand blows from and blows delivered to Acroyear's sword.
He wore armor, including a
metallic-looking helmet which certainly granted him superhuman strength
and durability; these allowed him to engage the immensely strong
Acroyear. His armor withstood a blast from Ampzilla's head-blaster, but
the blast did stun him.
However, the armor was susceptible to Fireflyte's
sonic-powered song, which swiftly caused the armor to fall apart.
Without his armor, he had no superhuman durability and was vulnerable to Arcturus Rann's laser pistol.
History:
(Micronauts I#46) - Centauria and the Death Squad (seen only in shadows of their heads) ambushed Acroyear, Bug, and Pharoid after the former two had rescued/freed the latter. (Micronauts I#47) - Ampzilla commented to Battleaxe
that "the meat had indeed drawn flies" (indicating that the Micronauts
had fallen into their trap), and Battleaxe replied that they -- Force
Commander's chosen fly-catchers -- would swat them down. When Pharoid urged Acroyear and Bug to leave him and save Slug, Battleaxe replied, "Save Slug? From what? A glorious marriage to our most regal monarch? Ha! These two Micronauts will have all they can handle trying to save themselves!" Denouncing Battleaxe as a braggart, Acroyear drove him back with his energy sword and told him that while Battleaxe was just a man encased in battle-armor, he (Acroyear) -- armor or no -- was mightiest of the Acroyears.Battleaxe fought back, striking his axe against Acroyear's sword, although to limited effect. Alongside Ampzilla, Battleaxe continued to fight Acroyear until DeGrayde arrived with a contingent of Dog Soldiers. Soon after, Lobros' tongue-tentacles snaked down Bug's throat, and Acroyear surrendered to spare Bug's life. Battleaxe and his allies stood aside as DeGrayde had his Dog Soldiers take Acroyear, Bug, and Pharoid captive. |
(Micronauts I#48) - En route to the Pleasure Pits, Acroyear broke free and assaulted his captors. Wrapping his manacle chains around Ampzilla's neck, he deflected Ampzilla's head-blaster so that it struck Battleaxe instead, causing Battleaxe to drop to the ground.
(Micronauts I#49) - The Death
Squad, including Battleaxe, were allocated sentry duty to ensure that
Acroyear, Bug and Pharoid did not escape the Arena where they fought a
spider-scorpion creature as part of Force Commander's wedding games
prior to his planned marriage to Slug (actually Belladonna's mind in
Slug's body). Battleaxe remarked that he wished it was them (the Death
Squad) in there fighting the captive Micronauts rather than DeGrayde's
pet. Centauria assured him that their time would come, once the
Micronauts were softened up. Marionette and Huntarr revealed
their presence in the crowd by assaulting the Death Squad. Battleaxe
engaged Huntarr, who formed shields from his arms to batter both
Battleaxe and Ampzilla back. (Micronauts I#49 - BTS) - With
Huntarr fighting for the Micronauts, the people in the arena rose up
to join the fight against the Dog Soldiers. Soon after, however, the dark form of
Karza ripped out of Argon's body,
grabbing everyone's attention momentarily, after which the Bioship returned with Arcturus Rann. The Death Squad then engaged the Micronauts on the Arena floor, but both Centauria and Lobros were soon slain. Battleaxe nonetheless continued to struggle with Rann, advising him that he (Rann) would die alongside them (the fallen members of the Death Squad). |
.
. . However, Fireflyte then arrived and spun around Battleaxe, her song swiftly stripping him of both his armor and his axe.
Noting that Battleaxe was now as mortal as any man, Rann then
blasted Battleaxe in the chest, presumably killing him. (Micronauts I#50 - BTS) - Ampzilla soon perished at Acroyear's hands, but the heroes were ultimately forced to flee Homeworld to escape Karza's power. |
