History:
(Combat Casey I#30/3) - Trained to serve in the K-9 Corps, Battle was
assigned as a sentry dog to a U.S. Army base in Korea during the Korean
War. One evening, Chuk and two other communist soldiers invaded the
base in an attempt to destroy its ammunition dump. While the base's
human sentry fought two of the intruders, Battle gave chase to Chuk,
who attempted to destroy the ammunition dump solo. Battle leaped at
Chuk and dragged him to the ground then held him incapacitated until
the human sentry was able to seize Chuk as a prisoner.
After the end of the Korean War, Battle was sent the Tokyo Ordnance Depot Dog Training Center to live in the barracks there. Battle continued to serve the U.S. Army in Japan as a warehouse and installation guard. Battle's kennel in Tokyo identified him as a Korean War vet. Penny P. Pennington cited Battle as an example of what the K-9 Corps' dogs were capable of.
