History:
(ALF#8/2 (fb) - BTS) - Melmal Capone rose to become
the gangster Codfather because of the ruthless way he ruled the
waterfront on Melmac, using violence to extort from businesses, aided
by his
brutish enforcer Bulk Brogan.
(ALF#8/2) - Florence Shumway, the mother of Gordon
(later known as ALF on Earth), became so renown for her delicious
seafood slimeball recipe that the Shumway family opened a restaurant on
the waterfront, unaware of the Codfather's rule. The "Slime Time"
restaurant immediately became popular and drew the attention of
Codfather, who visited the restaurant two weeks later, blocking that
evening's fish delivery. Brogan broke the door and window as
Codfather demanded half of the profits and threatened the Shumway family
if they called the cops. The gangsters then sped off in their boat.
Young Gordon followed in a skiff using a toy radar-scope and caught
up with them at a fashion-trash barge (which collected rapidly
outfashioned clothing for landfill). There, Codfather had Brogan spread
gasoline to prepare to immolate the boat as the owners had missed
extortion payments. But Codfather saw Gordon sneak onboard and ordered
Brogan catch him. Gordon defiantly used his toy gun and the flash
temporarily stunned the brute. While the two criminals were distracted,
Gordon used the ship's electro-melmagnet and snared the gangsters.
Gordon alerted the Coast Guard and the dire duo were cuffed and taken
away.
Comments: Created by Michael Gallagher, Dave Manak, Marie Severin.
"Codfather" is an obvious reference to the crimelord
figure in the Godfather films and his name to the American gangster Al
Capone, while
"Bulk Brogan" references the famous ex-wrestler Hulk Hogan. Initially I
thought why not have Bulk (who had "Bulkster" on his t-shirt) with the
surname Bogan instead of Brogan (which is a heavy shoe), but it seems
Bogan is only Australian and New Zealand slang for a person who's
"considered unrefined or unsophisticated."
Could Codfather return with other food-themed
industry leaders, such as electronic farmer Melon Husk, who also sells
trained birds that
can fly around chirping whatever you want them to say, and maybe Bart
Butterburg, who controls a giant recipe book that anyone can contribute
to, regardless if it's made up, as long as there are selfie photos with
food?
The puns fly thick and fast in Marvel's ALF comic stories, so I won't explain everything.
Codfather and the Bulkster likely perished with the destruction of Melmac many years later.
Further details on the Melmacian alien species (according to the ALF television show) can be found on a Melmac fansite. No problem!

CLARIFICATIONS
:
Codfather has no known connections to:
The simple-minded but brutish Bulk Brogan was the
Codfather's
tall and strong enforcer, and obeyed Codfather's orders, quickly
engaging in violence when called on. When Codfather called on Florence
Shumway's new slimeball restaurant, he had Brogan break the door and
window while he threatened to torch the building unless the Shumways
gave him regular payments. The duo sped off in their boat to their next
target. Florence's young son Gordon (later known as ALF) secretly
followed and tackled them before the two gangsters could set fire
to the boat. Gordon's toy gun's flash momentarily stunned Brogan,
allowing Gordon to use the ship's electro-melmagnet to snare the
criminals. Gordon alerted the Coast Guard and the dire duo were cuffed
and taken away.
