History:
(Vault of Spiders I#1 /2 (fb) - BTS) - Doc Morbius learned of the recipe for a "miracle elixir" from an Apache shaman.

(Vault of Spiders I#1 /2 (fb)) - Doc Morbius soon used the recipe to create a traveling medicine show business to sell the elixir, employing trick shooter Patrick O'Hara to spin yarns and entice customers into visiting the show. When O'Hara expressed suspicions that the elixir was nothing more than snake oil, Doc Morbius insisted the recipe was legitimate and that it could help people change along with the changing times. Eventually, some of Doc Morbius' elixir fell onto a spider that bit O'Hara, granting him spider-like abilities that he used as the heroic outlaw Web-Slinger.

(Vault of Spiders I#1 / 2 (fb) - BTS) - Over time, Doc Morbius began drinking his own elixir and it eventually transformed him into a blood-sucking monster.

(Vault of Spiders I#1 /2) - When a man ran into a saloon in the town of Dead Tree exclaiming how a wagon outside of town was attacked and its people butchered, Patrick O'Hara, who happened to be in the saloon, decided to investigate as the Web-Slinger, soon tracking down the attacker as a mutated Doc Morbius. Busting in on Doc Morbius and a trio of captured children, the Web-Slinger was told that Morbius' business was none of the hero's concern but when the Web-Slinger refused to leave without the children, Doc Morbius unleashed a group of mutates against the gunslinger. The Web-Slinger easily pinned the vampiric mutates with his web guns but Doc Morbius tackled the Web-Slinger, exclaiming that the hero had no idea the agony he was in. Web-Slinger knocked Doc Morbius away and both combatants got back to their feet, at which point Doc Morbius tried to explain how he needed the children's vitality to cure himself or risk becoming something worse than he already was. A knocked over lantern soon set Doc Morbius' chemicals ablaze and Doc Morbius realized the chemicals would explode. Not wishing to be remembered as a monster, Doc Morbius ordered the Web-Slinger to get the children and himself out of his lab before it exploded. The Web-Slinger did as instructed and got the children to safety mere moments before the lab exploded, apparently killing Doc Morbius in the process.
