EARTH-82171
Type: Alternate Earth
Environment: Digital facsimile of Earth-like
conditions
Usual means of access: Presumably vibrational
attunement
Dominant Life Form: Humans
Significant Inhabitants: Green Goblin, Spider-Man
First Appearance: Spider-Man video game (1982)
History:
(Spider-Man video
game (fb) - BTS) - The Green Goblin planted Super Bombs on the rooftops
of various New York City buildings as well as smaller time-bombs within
the buildings' high
voltage towers. In an effort to prevent Spider-Man's interference in
his
plans, the Green Goblin patrolled the skies and had his gang of thugs
patrol the buildings' interiors.
(Spider-Man video game) - Spider-Man jumped into action against the Green Goblin, web-swinging up building after building, disarming the Goblin's time-bombs and apprehending the crooks serving the Green Goblin. Upon reaching the rooftop of each building, Spider-Man disarmed the Super Bomb on the building and avoided the Green Goblin, whose Goblin Glider cut Spider-Man's webline, before moving on to the next building. As he moved to taller buildings, Spider-Man's web-fluid drained faster but he was able to replenish his supply after apprehending the Goblin's agents.
(Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
film (fb) - BTS) - Green Goblin somehow departed Earth-82171 and wound
up in another reality, where he was apprehended and imprisoned by the
Multiversal Spider-Society.
Comments: Created by unidentified Atari employees.
The Spider-Man video game did not have an end credits screen so whoever wrote the basic plot for the game and designed the character sprites was left unidentified. The only thing close to credits was the logo of Atari on the video game box, stating the company as the game's developer.
Originally, elements of this
reality were covered under the Green
Goblin's Super-Bomb Plot profile but upon seeing the Atari Green
Goblin in the Spider-Man: Across the
Spider-Verse film, Appendix writer HBK123 deduced that the video
game must take place in a reality where everyone resembles Atari
sprites. This reality was then officially
designated Earth-82171. At first, I began to update the Green Goblin's
Super-Bomb Plot profile to include the info from the Across the Spider-Verse film,
assuming that the Green Goblin's plot was now officially designated its
own reality and that the events did not occur on Earth-616 as I had
originally assumed (with the sprites being merely an artistic
interpretation of Earth-616). However, while researching into the video
game itself for the updates, I found print ads from the game's
distributor, Parker Brothers, that specifically show comic-like
appearances of the characters and the ads clearly show the video game
as being nothing more than a video game with someone conning Spider-Man
into acting the game's events. Therefore, I've made the determination
that the print ads are Earth-616's version of the events while the game
itself, its box art & instruction manual reflects the Earth-82171
events. With that in mind, I have updated the original Green Goblin's
Super-Bomb Plot profile to reflect the Earth-616 version of the events
while this new Earth-82171 profile will reflect the game's events. BIG
thanks to HBK123 for his assistance in making this determination!

CLARIFICATIONS:
Earth-82171 has no known connections to:
Green Goblin was a costumed criminal foe of the
heroic
Spider-Man. He devised a plot to destroy New York City by placing large
Super-Bombs atop various city buildings and smaller time-bombs among
the city's various high voltage towers. In an effort to keep his
nemesis Spider-Man from interfering with his plot, the Goblin had a
gang of thugs keep Spider-Man busy in the various targeted buildings
by attempting to cut the hero's weblines as he swung his way to the
buildings' rooftops. At some point later, the Green Goblin somehow
wound up in another reality, where he was defeated by the Multiversal
Spider-Society and imprisoned in their headquarters alongside other
anomalous super-criminals. When an alternate reality Miles Morales
Spider-Man was being shown the Spider-Society's headquarters for the
first time, he was led past several laser cages containing the
Society's captured anomalous beings including Green Goblin.
Like his Earth-616 counterpart, the Green Goblin
traveled through the air on a motorized, goblin-like glider vehicle. It
is unrevealed if he possessed the same superhuman powers of his
Earth-616 counterpart such as superhuman strength.
--Spider-Man video game (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
film (fb) - BTS, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film,
Much like its Earth-616 and real-life (Earth-1218) counterpart, New York City was a bustling metropolis full of large skyscrapers. When the criminal Green Goblin opted to destroy the city, he placed large Super Bombs atop various skyscrapers and smaller time-bombs within the buildings' high voltage towers. In an effort to stop the Green Goblin, the heroic Spider-Man climbed and web-swung his way across the skyscrapers, where he defused the Super Bombs.
Note: For the more comic book-looking
artwork of Earth-82171's New York City, see the main image of this
profile, as it is only drawn image of the city that we have so far.
Spider-Man was an arachnid superhero known for swinging around New York City on his chemical weblines. When his nemesis, the Green Goblin, targeted several New York City buildings with large Super-Bombs and the city's voltage towers with smaller time-bombs, Spider-Man went into action to defuse the bombs and halt the Goblin's plot. As he swung his way to the targeted buildings' rooftops, Spider-Man was continuously accosted by the criminal gang of thugs serving the Green Goblin but the hero nonetheless continued working to defuse the bombs.
Like his Earth-616 counterpart, Spider-Man possessed a danger-warning "Spider-Sense" and the ability to cling to solid surfaces. He also utilized mechanical web-shooters that projected chemical webbing. It is unrevealed if he also possessed the other superhuman powers that his Earth-616 counterpart had, including superhuman strength and agility.
Note: Earth-82171's
Spider-Man should not be confused with the more detailed video game
sprite Spider-Man seen in the 2022 "End of the Spider-Verse" storyline.
