History:
(Darkhawk I#40 - BTS) <According to Osch, the consciousness that
inhabited the ship in which the Darkhawk android form and/or its host
were stored when the other form was active> - One of the Darkhawk
amulets became embedded in the floor of what had been a great ocean on
the planet Garai. In its death-throes, the amulet expelled that waters
into nothingness, and it threatened to do the same to its entire sector
of Null Space.
(Darkhawk I#40) - Garai became a planet under turmoil, with numerous asteroids drawn to crash against it.
(Darkhawk I#40) - As Darkhawk -- Christopher Powell
within a new Darkhawk android body after his original Darkhawk form had
been destroyed; and with a separate Chris Powell form still active on
Earth -- revived within a healing center following recovering two of
the Darkhawk amulets they needed, Osch advised him of the third amulet,
causing devastation and death on Garai. Osch guided Darkhawk to the
amulet's location, telling him how the amulet could destroy the entire
sector of Null Space if he did not capture and contain the amulet.
Osch gave Darkhawk a containment
vessel for the amulet and advised him that he could use his new android
body to combine the uses of several powers, and Darkhawk combined his
force shield and darkforce beam to form a giant, vaguely hawk-shaped
field to navigate the asteroid fields and arrive on Garai's surface.
Locating the amulet, Darkhawk extended pincers to grab it, despite the
incredible force it was exuding and place it within the containment
vessel. Immediately, the rifts in space closed and the planet stopped
quaking. The people cheered Darkhawk, after which he returned to Osch's
ship.
Comments: Created by Danny Fingeroth, Tod Smith, and Ian Akin.
Darkhawk put together a convoluted
but interesting and detailed history for its characters, technology,
etc. And then the Fraternity of Raptors stories came along and seemed
to retcon a lot of it, with the existence of Osch etc. supposed to be
hallucinations experienced by Christopher Powell. I really don't know
what to make of it all anymore, but I will tell you that wholesale
retcon is just plain horse shite. The stories happened, the characters
exist in-continuity. At minimum, there is some reality where events
exist exactly as they were told in the original Darkhawk series.
I am reporting all of the information on Garai from
the original story, and that's about all I can do now. But, I would
like to know more about the world and its people.
Did Garai exist within Null Space or in Earth's universe?
The pages picturing and referencing the planet Garai start with a caption of "NULL SPACE," which is noted to be "a dimension in crisis...a crisis which may well be the harbinger of doom for all the planes of reality. The particular locus of this crisis is the planet Garai. And its only hope for salvation is aboard this ship. The ship is called Osch. The salvation is called Darkhawk."
Later on in the story, Osch notes
that the third amulet in the amulet quest was embedded in the floor of
what had been a great ocean and that it had expelled that waters into
nothingness, as it will do to the entire sector of null space if you do
not capture and contain the amulet.
It certainly seems like it was
meant to be in Null Space, but it could have been that it was in
Earth's universe but that the amulet was causing warps into Null Space.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Garai has no known connections to
The
natives of Garai were yellow-skinned creatures with scales, pointed
ears, orange or black hair, opaque white eyes, four fingers and a
thumb, and broad-ridges noses. Possibly some of them had a sort of fin-structure on the lateral surface of their cheeks. They were seen fleeing as a city-like structure was shattered by meteorites, etc. After Darkhawk contained the amulet, closing the rifts in space and stopping the planet quakes, the people cheered him. --Darkhawk I#40 Note: I don't know what to call these people. Are they also called Garai, like their world? Are they Gara? Garaians? or some name unrelated to their world? |
