History:
(Stryfe's Strike File I#1 - BTS) - The time traveling terrorist Stryfe
became aware of the mutant known only as Holocaust. Stryfe's studies of historical data of this eras showed that
Holocaust should not even exist. Intrigued by his actions,
Stryfe began to keep tabs on Holocaust's activities, which led to him
creating an entry for his personal strike files.
(Stryfe's Strike File I#1) - Stryfe recorded Holocaust's most recent
activities including singlehandedly destroying a Sentinel processing
plant, frustrating the high stakes schemes of the Upstarts and numerous
attempts to kill members of the X-Men. Stryfe had a hard time
categorizing Holocaust. After weighing the options between "hero" and
"villain" he reluctantly settled on "anarchist".
(Stryfe's Strike File I#1 - BTS) -
Holocaust tore a bloody swath across Europe and North Africa with Stryfe
recording attributed kill zones in the United Kingdom, France, Germany,
Italy, the Mediterranean and Algiers (see comments).
(Stryfe's Strike File I#1 - BTS) - Holocaust's actions left Stryfe
wondering what his main goal was because the methods he used did not
reveal any sort of motivation. Stryfe did conclude that a way to defeat
this potential menace was through his power to adapt to any given
situation. Stryfe did speculate that the name "Holocaust" pretty much
implied what his goal was: the destruction of all life on Earth. The
time traveler then added a wry note implying that he'd better hurry up
because the Legacy Virus was about to do the job for him.
Comments: Created by Scott Lobdell, Fabian Nicieza,
Greg Capullo and Mark Farmer.
Back in late 1992, the appeal of Stryfe's Strike File, apart
from the borderline comical purple prose, was the fact it introduced
readers to four new characters that were planned to become important
players in the X-books: Sienna Blaze, Graydon Creed, Threnody and...
Holocaust?
Fabian Nicieza and Scott Lobdell teased this character a full 2 years
before the Age of Apocalypse would introduce the Earth-295 variant who
got a giant armor and a hand cannon to complete the terrifying look.
When that Holocaust made the jump to Earth-616, there was no apparent
need to develop this "prototype" any further.
Could Stryfe have been talking about the AOA Holocaust here? It's
possible! After all, Dark Beast and Sugar Man both arrived years in the
past, who's to say that wasn't the initial plan for Holocaust as well?
When Earth-295's Holocaust first showed up, he was also active in the
Mediterranean, killing people left and right to fuel himself and his
powers. Or maybe Stryfe was slightly off when he compiled this
particular entry for his Strike Files. Hey, what's a year or two to a
time traveler from the year 4000?
Back in 2011, a character closely resembling Holocaust debuted in the
pages of Uncanny X-Force: Genocide, son of Apocalypse and his
former Horseman Famine. While the physical resemblance is undeniable,
the information in Stryfe's Strike File indicates these are
not the same characters. Given
Stryfe's own obsession with Apocalypse, it seems likely he'd have
known all about his foe's offspring. Also, their powers don't match
and Genocide really liked to talk while Holocaust was believed
to be a mute.
Which begs the question... How did Stryfe know his name
was Holocaust when he allegedly never spoke?
