Powers/Abilities: Tony Stark is a genius mechanical
engineer capable of grasping the inner workings of complex technologies
years ahead of his time on an intuitive level. He is a gifted inventor
who designed two-way holo-communicators and gauntlets capable of firing
force blasts. With access to his 616-counterpart's arsenal, he designed
an Iron Man suit largely made of solid-light and forcefields. Only the
helmet, gauntlets, boots and chestplate were actual pieces of armor. The
armor included back-up force shields, internal life-support systems and
temperature-proofed therma-screens, while the boot jets allowed
hyper-thrust flight. The gauntlets were outfitted with various weapons
systems, including vari-focus lasers, microwave pulses and electrical
arc-generators. After suffering a near fatal heart injury, he was
outfitted with a powered chest plate designed to sustain his vital
functions.
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 200 lbs.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Black
History:
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Growing up as the only
child of wealthy industrialist Howard Stark and his socialite wife
Maria, Tony wanted for nothing. He was raised in his family's New York
City brownstone and looked after by Edwin Jarvis who cared for the boy
as if he were his own son.
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Young Tony Stark enjoyed going to
science camp during the summer holidays. There, he developed a taste for
pigs in a blanket.
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1) (fb) - BTS) - Tony was always creating and
inventing new technologies, his bedroom at the Stark family townhouse
resembled a makeshift workshop.
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Sometime during his
teenage years, Tony Stark met and fell in love with Meredith McCall.
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1 (fb)- BTS) - At nineteen years old, Tony Stark
was a freshman at M.I.T.
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1 (fb) - BTS) - As a combination freshman science
project and Mother's Day gift, Tony came up with a two-way
holo-communicator. He kept his in a watch and gave his mother one built
inside an amulet so they could always keep in touch. She loved it, his
M.I.T. professor Slaght wasn't as impressed.
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1 (fb) - BTS) - On March 15th, Stark and Meredith
were enjoying their time off from school. Cruising around New York City,
they were unaware that a contingent of Avengers and their butler Edwin
Jarvis had traveled from Earth-616 to look for him. They were pursued by
the Anachronaut Tobias who was intent on killing the young Stark.
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1) - Hoping to get some more alone time with his
girlfriend, Tony called his mother on her holo-amulet to tell he'd be
home a little later and that he would be bringing a guest.
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1 - BTS) - Stark Mansion was attacked by Tobias
who killed their maid Emma. He then assaulted Howard and Maria, hoping
it would draw out their son. He was opposed by the Avengers and the
Edwin Jarvises of both timeframes. Tobias eventually took off with
Howard and Maria.
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1) - Tony Stark was shocked when he learned about
the Avengers, a future Edwin Jarvis and their fantastical mission. He
decided to aid them in finding where Tobias had taken his parents. Using
the holo-communicator to pinpoint his mother to the Eastern European
nation of Latveria, he quickly cobbled together a makeshift armor to
accompany the heroes.
(Avengers: Timeslide I#1) - Despite their best efforts, the Avengers and
the young, headstrong Tony Stark could not prevent Tobias from mortally
wounding Howard and Maria. Holding his dying mother in his arms, Stark
was unable to stop Tobias from being rescued by his twin brother
Malachi. Intent on avenging the death of his parents, the grief stricken
teen agreed to accompany the Avengers back to their time, which was a
decade in the future for him. The heroes were then approached by
Latveria's new leader Doctor Doom who offered to transport them back to
their proper era with his own time platform.
(Iron Man I#325 (fb) - BTS) - Directly after arriving back in their
present, the Avengers asked Hawkeye and their associate Masque to take
young Tony to his counterpart's home on the Pacific Coast to see if he
could crack his personal database and find out how to access the Stark
arctic bunker.
(Iron Man I#325) - Masque and Hawkeye watched in amazement as the
teenager went to work in his future self's laboratory, intuitively
figuring out sophisticated systems years ahead of what he is used to.
(Iron Man I#325 - BTS) - After a while, Tony determined Stark was still
holed up in his Arctic bunker. Hawkeye informed Captain America and the
other Avengers back in New York that they were moving against him. But
before the team could depart for the polar regions, they were stopped by
Henry Gyrich and a contingent of Mandroids.
(Iron Man I#325) - Arriving in the Arctic on a Force Works hexship, Tony
Stark was able to access the heavily fortified bunker because its
systems recognized him. He opened the doors by giving the correct
password: 'Mallory', which surprised the bunker's major domo
Machinesmith who came out with guns blazing. The stunned Stark was saved
by Masque who took the robot master out. Hawkeye then blew up the
hexship to distract the bunker's defense systems, allowing the trio
access to the facility.
(Iron Man I#325 - BTS) - The Avengers were picked up from New York by
their teleporting ally Century.
(Iron Man I#325) - Hawkeye and Tony searched the bunker, but they
stopped to admire the collection of Iron Man armors stored there. They
were unaware the adult Iron Man was hiding among the armors in his
current model. He attacked the trespassers, but Hawkeye bought Stark
enough time to don one of the nearby suits. Even though the Avengers
arrived to join the fight, the ultimate confrontation was between the
two Starks. Iron Man easily overpowered his inexperienced counterpart,
but couldn't stop teen Tony from using his repulsors to destroy the
bunker's defensive array. Furious over this setback and the fact his
younger self was still full of hope, wonder and self satisfaction, the
elder Stark caused massive injuries to the boy's chest. He was then
teleported away by Immortus (posing as Kang) who appeared in the
bunker with his forces (disguised Space Phantoms) for their final
battle against the Avengers.
(Avengers I#395) -
Hoping to save Tony's life, the Avenger Crystal rapidly lowered his
internal temperature to induce a state of suspended animation. But the
damage to his chest looked beyond repair. Hoping to buy the boy some
more time, Vision merged his intangible form with Tony's and then
selectively solidified the necessary organs and arteries so his heart
could serve as Stark's. That risky move worked and the teen survived
long enough for the adult Tony Stark to return to his bunker to
sacrifice his life to stop 'Kang' and his forces. Before he died, Stark
gave the Avengers schematics for his own life saving chestplate.
(Age of Innocence: The Rebirth of Iron Man I#1 - BTS) - Hastily
returning to New York with the mortally wounded Tony Stark, the Avengers
and Jarvis watched as Hank Pym worked round the clock to construct and
install the cardiovascular chestplate. Even though Tony was young and
strong, his wounds were serious and new infections kept cropping up as
quickly as Pym and his staff could combat them.
(Age of Innocence: The Rebirth of Iron Man I#1) - Once Tony got fitted
with the chestplate, all anyone could do was wait when and if he'd wake
up. Edwin Jarvis kept a vigil at his bio-bed, joined by associates from
his counterpart's past: Happy Hogan and Pepper Potts, as well as Masque
who used her shapeshifting abilities to assume Stark's various loves
before warning him he'd better do right by them this time around. He was
telepathically visited by Marianne Rodgers who was happy to find he was
free of Kang and Mantis' corruption. A little later, he was visited by a
mysterious, foreboding presence who warned young Tony of the many
enemies waiting in the wings for him including Blacklash, the Corruptor,
the Mandarin, the Ghost and a successor to the cold-generating Jack
Frost (see comments). Moments later, the teenage Tony Stark woke
up from his coma.
(Iron Man I#326 (fb) - BTS) - After sufficiently recovering from his
injuries, young Tony Stark decided to build a new life for himself in
this strange new future. Rather than re-enrolling M.I.T. he decided to
stay in New York and sign up for classes at Columbia University. Edwin
Jarvis was happy to have the teen around, even giving him a communicard,
although the other Avengers were pretty much strangers to him (see
comments).
(Iron Man I#326) - On his first day on campus, he encountered fellow
student Chap Walters who wondered if he was any relation to the famous
Tony Stark. Seconds after denying that, Tony was surprised when Chap ran
off. Turns out he was afraid of the bully jock Benjamin Brennan and his
posse including Trace and Kris DeGann who was taken by young Tony. She
later chatted him up during registration for classes, they were forced
to take the one remaining science course necessary to meet semester
requirements but it was taught by the dreaded professor Alden. Tony was
stunned to find she was actually Meredith McCall, the girl he abandoned
when he traveled to the future.
(Iron Man I#326 - BTS) - Moments later the Zodiac's power draining field
hit Columbia University, shutting down any and all electrical systems
and turning the campus pitchblack.
(Iron Man I#326) - Iron Man used a bright flash from his gauntlets to
light the way and evacuate the registration offices, but he soon
realized his chestplate was rapidly losing power. He rushed to the
university labs to create some makeshift shielding that helped to stop
the bleeding of power, but his heart-respirator would need recharging
soon. He then learned of the darkened dome that had appeared around New
York City, cutting off the island from outside assistance.
(Iron Man I#326 - BTS) - Iron Man went outside to help, soon
reconnecting with Thor and Captain America who were already fighting off
Zodiac forces.
(Iron Man I#326) - The three Avengers stole one of the Zodiac's sky
skimmers, which were immune to their energy dampening tech. As they took
off, Tony Stark repaired he skimmer's transporter and used its systems
to power his communicard so he could reach out to Avengers stuck outside
the city. They contacted Quicksilver, Giant-Man, Deathcry and the Wasp
who were all ready to be teleported in. But there were also thousands of
panicked New Yorkers desperate to leave. With barely enough juice left
in his chestplate to power the teleporter once, they were faced with a
dilemma: rescue civilians or bring in reinforcements?
(Avengers I#396) - Without informing his teammates, Tony poured the
remaining charge of his chestplate into the transporter systems,
breaching the dome and reuniting the Avengers. After Hank Pym rescued
Stark by successfully rerouting emergency power back into the armor, the
Avengers tracked the Zodiac to the US Intrepid. Their attempt to
infiltrate the ship failed when the enemy forces picked up light
reflecting off of Tony's repulsors. He was saved by Captain America who
deflected the hail of bullets with his shield. Iron Man helped keep the
Zodiac forces at bay while Pym searched for the transformer that was
keeping the dome up. Once it was destroyed, the Zodiac's leader Libra
destroyed his troops and beat a strategic retreat.
(Iron Man I#327 (fb) -
BTS) - Tony redesigned his Iron Man armor. To better protect himself
against energy assaults and system overloads he integrated a new pulser
designed to shunt off attacks, ensuring his heart was better shielded
than ever.
(Iron Man I#327) - Tony Stark was present at the reading of his future
self's last will and testament. The experience rattled him, making him
realize how much he had lost since arriving in this time. He visited the
grave site of his alternate counterpart, while wondering how the future
could have caught up with him so quickly.
(Iron Man I#327 - BTS) - Determined not to make the same mistakes as the
man he had come here to replace, Tony wanted to make amends with his old
girlfriend Meredith McCall.
(Iron Man I#327) - After illegally breaking into the university's data
systems to get her home address, Tony showed up at Meredith's doorstep
only to find she was under attack by the supervillain Frostbite. Stark
was stunned when he introduced himself as her husband Sloane Alden. He
was powerless when the villain trapped him inside a block of solid ice.
(Iron Man I#328 (fb) - BTS) - The electrically generated heat screen in
his gauntlet eventually defrosted Iron Man. He rushed to Avengers
Mansion where he began work on a full suit of armor, pillaging the
headquarters for parts. When Jarvis came to protest young Tony
essentially ruining most of the kitchen, several doorbells and light
fixtures and the Wasp's favorite reading lamp he was stunned to find
Stark was already in the final phase of constructing his new armor.
(Iron Man I#328) - Now
wearing his partially holographic armor, Tony Stark sought out Frostbite
who was terrorizing New York with his powers. When the villain refused
to go back to Avengers Mansion for treatment, they fought it out. A
disastrous moment occurred when Frostbite flash froze the object of both
their affection: Meredith McCall. When Stark realized heat wasn't
bringing his opponent down, he opted to try for cold. He manufactured a
freak weather event that resulted in a flash freeze, causing Frostbite
to be frozen solid. Iron Man then tended to Meredith McCall's, using his
armor's systems to warm her up, though the rapid rewarming caused her to
go blind.
(Iron Man I#328 - BTS) - Following the fight with Frostbite, Tony
decided to move out of Avengers Mansion and into the Columbia University
dormitories.
(Iron Man I#328) - Tony was visited in his dorm room by Edwin Jarvis who
was worried that living on a student campus would cause him to fall prey
to the addictions that plagued his counterpart. As if on cue, they were
interrupted by Kris DeGann who came by to take Tony to his first campus
beer bash.
(Avengers I#401 (fb) - BTS) - After complaints about the noise
pollution, Iron Man redesigned the Quinjet and its launch system. The
new system was based on NASA's code-seven space shuttles, using
afterburn recoil to maximize thrust and gel-polymer coated titanium
tracks with an integrated pauling magnotrack.
(Spider-Man Team-Up I#4) - During a visit to Avengers Mansion, Tony
agrees to a training session with Hawkeye that focused on mastering his
future self's fighting techniques using his current armor. A training
mishap involving a concussive arrow led to a brief scare when Hawkeye
was buried under debris. Later, Tony had a meeting with Pepper Potts who
brought him files detailing his future self's accomplishments. The
meeting turned awkward when Tony tried to flirt with the married Pepper
who grew furious at his advances.
(Spider-Mean Team-Up
I#4 (fb) - BTS) - Tony time traveling to Earth-616 resulted in a wave of
chronal energy that activated a long abandoned Spider-Man robot once
used by Kang against the Avengers.
(Spider-Man Team-Up I#4) - Now calling itself Timespinner and believing
Iron Man was his master, the robot kidnapped Tony. His plan was to use
Stark to help him destroy future centuries. Aged to adulthood by the
Timespinner, Tony briefly considered the robot's offer but ultimately
rejected it, realizing he must forge his own path and avoid becoming
like his older, more problematic self. He actively worked to destroy the
Timespinner's machines, ultimately contributing to the robots
destruction with the help of the other Avengers and Spider-Man (Ben
Reilly). The experience reinforced Tonys resolve to learn from both his
past and future.
(Iron Man I#329 (fb) - BTS) - Tony got so drunk at the Kappa Phi frat
house that he agreed to accompany Brennan and his buddies to pull a
prank by breaking into the museum of natural history to replace a
painting with a picture they'd drawn of Kris DeGann.
(Iron Man I#329) - Security guards spotted the drunk frat boys, but only
Tony Stark wound up under arrest. He was taken to jail where Kris showed
up the next morning to bail him out, using the Kappa Phi's bail fund.
Still half drunk and feeling lousy, Tony wanted to go home and rest but
Kris took him to the Kappa Phi house where another frat party was taking
place. Forced to drink again, he was nowhere near ready to act as Iron
Man when a fire broke out. He rescued Kris, flying her to a nearby attic
where he figured she'd be safe while he put out the fire by burning away
all the oxygen. That move indirectly set off canisters of oxygen next to
pressurized helium and nitrous tanks in the attic where he had left
Kris. They exploded before he could reach her.
(Iron Man I#330 (fb) ) - Iron Man used his armor's systems to redirect
the explosion, allowing the energy to dissipate into the night sky. He
then rushed Kris DeGann to the nearest hospital where he called for
Jarvis to come and stay with him. He tearfully explained all his recent
missteps to his faithful family friend.
(Iron Man I#330) - In the morning, just as Tony went to check in on
Kris, they encountered the newly blinded Meredith McCall who recognized
a familiar voice... Edwin Jarvis's (see comments). Tony briefly
felt guilty about causing her blindness, but in her conversation with
Jarvis she explained that rescue workers told her she was only alive
thanks to a 'knight in shining armor'. He then went into Kris' hospital
room where her mother assured him she was going to be fine.
(Iron Man I#330 - BTS) - James Rhodes asked to meet with
Tony Stark in Manhattan.
(Iron Man I#330) - Meeting later that night, Rhodes discovered that this
version of his best friend wanted nothing to do with him. Their terse
conversation was interrupted by an emergency call from Abe Zimmer who
was under attack in the Stark Enterprises complex on Long Island. Iron
Man and War Machine arrived just in time to catch the lethally wounded
Zimmer who was thrown off the roof by his assailants. Zimmer died in
Tony's arms, despite his best efforts to resuscitate him. When they
entered the building, they were soon faced by Unicorn and the Stockpile.
(Iron Man I#331) - After preventing the Stockpile from getting their
hands on the technology kept in the Stark vaults, Iron Man and War
Machine learned that they were sent by the long presumed dead Morgan
Stark. Now able to inhabit technology via remote control, Morgan took
over all of the armors kept in the vaults. The threat ended when Tony
risked his life facing Morgan and pitting his will against his cousin's.
Tony won the day: casting Morgan out and setting the self destruct on
all the armors so he couldn't try again.
(Avengers I#400) - Iron Man and the other Avengers were briefly tricked
by Loki who forced them to fight copies of all their old enemies. Before
the trickster god was defeated, Iron Man faced shadowy replicas of the
Living Laser and Ultron as well as the animated adamantium statues of
the team's founders. After Loki was defeated by trapping him in
adamantium, the Avengers were visited by X-Man (Nate Grey) who came to
warn them that professor Charles Xavier had gone insane.
(Onslaught X-Men I#1) - Nate Grey's passionate pleas, as well as a heavy
nosebleed, convinced the Avengers to go to Salem Center and check out
his claims.
(Uncanny X-Men I#335) - The Avengers flew their Quinjet over to
Westchester and were shocked to find the school partially in ruins. The
X-Men all survived Onslaught's initial assault and the ever volatile
Nate Grey forcibly entered their minds to manifest a psionic image of
Onslaught for all to see. After comparing notes, the heroes concluded
the being was a merger of Xavier and Magneto consisting entirely of
psionic energy. The Avengers set out to locate Joseph, who people
believed was a rejuvenated Magneto.
(Avengers I#401) -
Taking Gambit with them, the Avengers returned to the mansion and
prepped their new Quinjet for launch. Iron Man was so excited he got to
fly his new design, he got distracted and almost didn't open the launch
doors in time. Once up in the air, they used Cerebro's findings to
locate Joseph in Norfolk, South Carolina. Once they landed, the team was
surprised Rogue was with him. Mistaking the arrival of the Avengers as a
threat, a brief fight ensued with Joseph magnetically slamming Iron Man
through a nearby ship. After cooler heads prevailed, Rogue and Joseph
agreed to accompany the team back to New York, with Joseph even
apologizing to Tony.
(Iron Man I#331) - Several hours later, Tony Stark was back at Columbia
University where he was ready for the midterms. But before things could
get underway in Meredith McCall's class, the campus was invaded by
Sentinels.
(X-Men II#55) - Iron Man joined the Avengers and the X-Men on the roof
of Four Freedom's Plaza where they discussed strategy to deal with both
Onslaught and the army of Sentinels under his command. Iron Man was
assigned to help Reed and the other science minded heroes like Hank Pym
come up with ways to defend themselves against Onslaught's powers. Reed
gave Iron Man pieces of his father Nathaniel Richards' futuristic
psi-armor to study, which fascinated the young hero to no end. However,
before they had managed to build appropriate defenses, Onslaught made
his presence known by unleashing a massive electromagnetic storm. Inside
Four Freedoms Plaza, Iron Man's armor instantly short-circuited, along
with all their technology.
(Uncanny X-Men I#336) - After Bishop revived him by powering his armor
with bio-energy, Iron Man insisted he would be allowed to start work on
the new psi-armor schematics Cyclops and Jean Grey had collected from
Muir Island. But the young hero could barely stand on his feet, causing
the Thing to tell him to take it easy. Iron Man insisted to be helped to
the nearest lab. Impressed by his courage, Ben helped him get to where
he needed to go.
(Incredible Hulk
I#445) - When the Hulk showed up to join the heroes' efforts against
Onslaught, it annoyed him that Iron Man and his teammates still regarded
him as the enemy. To show some initiative, Hulk ignored Captain
America's orders and decided to tackle Onslaught head on.
(Iron Man I#332) - In an attempt to avoid the Sentinels patrolling the
city streets, Iron Man, Quicksilver and Giant-Man made their way through
the sewers to reach the Wakandan consulate. They were met by the Black
Panther who was expecting them: his was the only place in the city
unaffected by Onslaught's electromagnetic pulse after all. While
Quicksilver and Giant-Man did their best to keep the Sentinels occupied,
Iron Man and Black Panther hurried to start working on the schematics to
construct psi-armor. Panther allowed Iron Man to recharge his armor and
also used his stash of vibranium to complete and fortify the psi-armors.
Blasting his way through the Sentinels and carrying a stack of
psi-armors, Iron Man reconvened with Quicksilver and Giant-Man in Times
Square.
(Avengers I#402) - Iron Man supplied his fellow Avengers with personal
psi-armor and was then on hand to help them defeat Onslaught's minions
Post and Holocaust who had been sent to retrieve the psi-shielding. In
the end, Captain America managed to trick Holocaust into accidentally
taking down Post. On his own, the villain was no match for Iron Man and
the others
who blasted him into submission. Onslaught briefly appeared on a Times
Square billboard to taunt the heroes, but that only reinvigorated them
in preparation for their final confrontation.
(Onslaught: Marvel Universe I#1 (fb) ) - Iron Man, the Avengers,
Fantastic Four and their allies, including Doctor Doom, caught up with
the X-Men who had gone to confront Onslaught once they learned their
mentor Charles Xavier had left to face the villain on his own. Iron Man
helped up Gambit and Bishop and offered Cyclops the same psi-shielding
that was protecting them. The X-Men's leader refused, claiming that Jean
and Cable could keep them safe.
(Onslaught: Marvel Universe I#1 (fb) ) - Iron Man stayed out of most of
the ensuing fight, only actively participating once Onslaught's shell
was broken to reveal his final energy form. Mr. Fantastic ordered every
non-mutant to offer their bodies to anchor the villain before he could
spread across the world. Before flying in himself, Iron Man spotted
Doctor Doom attempting to claim the entity's power for his own. He
personally flew Latveria's monarch into the gaping maw of Onslaught.
(Avengers Annual 2001
I#1/2 (fb) - BTS) - For all intents and purposes, the life of Tony Stark
of Earth-96020 ended the moment he entered Onslaught.
(Iron Man II#11 (fb) - BTS) - Time traveling inside the Franklinverse,
Doctor Doom and Tony Stark relived the moment Teen Tony forced Doom
inside Onslaught.
(Avengers Annual 2001 I#1/2 (fb) - BTS) - When Tony Stark returned from
the Franklinverse, he suffered an identity crisis because he now
possessed three sets of memories: his life on Earth-616 before he died
fighting 'Kang', his time in the Franklinverse and the entire life of
his younger self from Earth-96020. Over time, these memories gradually
faded. It was decided that 'Teen Tony' died during Onslaught.
(Avengers Annual I#2001 I#1/2) - Edwin Jarvis dutifully recounted the
final fate of the teenage Tony Stark when the Avengers' security liaison
Duane Freeman sent him an email inquiry about the matter.
(JLA/Avengers I#3 (fb) - BTS) - Iron Man witnessed the exploits of 'Teen
Tony' when the Grandmaster showed the Avengers and the heroes from a
Divergent Continuum how their lives were supposed to have turned out if
the mad Oan scientist Krona had not forced their realities to merge.

Alas, Teen Tony, we hardly knew ye.
Tony Stark just might be the biggest victim of Marvel's
mid 90s slump. Editorial insisted on doing the Crossing and TimeSlide
events that would end with Iron Man as a teenage version of
himself. Longtime Iron Man writer Len Kaminski flat out refused
to write this mandated storyline and quit the book overnight out of
protest.
Terry Kavanagh had to scramble to take over, but it was a thankless job.
Teen Tony didn't get much of a chance to come into his own: his first
issue was a tie-in with the utterly forgettable First Sign
crossover... And barely 5 months later it was time for Teen Tony to face
both Onslaught and his ultimate bye-bye. There just wasn't enough time
to really get something going.
And there was potential. If nothing else, the book looked vibrant and
energetic thanks to Jimmy Cheung's art. As for the stories, well...
Terry Kavanagh spent most of his time setting up hard to buy soap opera
type storylines. Tony is shocked to find his new professor is actually
his old girlfriend from ten years ago... But before she can ever really
see him, she's blinded by her husband Frosbite. And while she easily
recognizes Jarvis' voice from ten years ago... She doesn't remember
Tony's? Go on!
They also never came up with a new identity for Teen Tony. He simply was
known as 'Tony Stark, but no relation to *that* Tony Stark'... Which is
a tough sell when you look just like him. Are every bit as brilliant as
him. And your return address is Avengers Mansion, aka Tony Stark's old
house. Just who was he supposed to be, then? How did he even enroll at
university? Did they doctor a new identity for him?
Teen Tony's status as an Avenger didn't get explored either. He remained
on the roster, though he was missing for a number of missions and was
never really seen bonding with anyone. Which is odd, after all: here's
this newly orphaned, time tossed teen rookie you recruited. You allow
him to fly around in a red and gold weapon of mass destruction... And no
one thinks he might need training? Maybe some mandatory sparring
sessions with Captain America? None of that, he got handed a communicard
and off he went.
The one time we saw the Avengers prep their young charge
was in an issue of Spider-Man Team-Up of all places... Which hit
the shelves barely a month before Tony's sacrifice. Too widdle, too
wate.
Also, the fact Teen Tony was 19 when he was brought back a
decade into the future means that, by the mid 90s, 'our' Iron Man was
barely 30 himself. I know smoking and drinking can prematurely age a
man, but... wow.
It's never been revealed who the malevolent spirit was that visited Tony
at the end of Age of Innocence: The Rebirth of Iron Man. Some
sources claim it was Morgan Stark, but when Iron Man fought Stark and
his Stockpile, Morgan made no mention of this and clearly had no clue
his cousin was now a teen. Also, Morgan does not
have the power of prescience that this character seemed to have: he
predicted upcoming fights with Mandarin, the Ghost and the Controller.
Terry Kavanagh only got around to covering Frostbite ('Jack Frost's
successor') before Heroes Reborn put the kibosh on Teen Tony's
career.
