The hybrid had sharp tusk-like maxillary (upper jaw) canine teeth with smaller but still sharp incisors.
It has three sharp, bone-like claws on each hand and foot, without an obvious opposing thumb-like structure.
It had a green reptilian-scales on the face with large eyes raised out of the skull and then a thick brown mane on the back of the lower portion its head, with similar thick brown fur over its body.
It was vulnerable to the power of a neutron gun.

It was not particularly stealthy
nor aggressive, and it presented little challenge to the hunter and his
neutron gun.
Type: Bilaterally symmetric biped (possessing reptilian and mammalian features
Eyes: Two (on head; dark color seen; projecting outward from rather than recessed within the skull)
Fingers: Three (without opposing thumb)
Toes: Three

compared to the hunter, perhaps 10'; however, it may be that the hunter
was just more distant, making it appear larger)
History:
(Astonishing
I#35/5 (fb) - BTS) - Bored as he had successfully hunted all big game
in the solar system, the hunter wished to have a quarry that could give
him a keen thrill of danger, even though in the end, he was certain to
conquer it.
(Astonishing I#35/5) - To this end, the hunter somehow crossbred a Plutonian Javarra and a(n) Uranian Blic.
However, even the fantastic
offspring provided only a routine hunt, and it was slain by the hunter
with his neutron gun.
Comments: Created by Mannie Banks and unidentified writer.
The hunter had presumably
successfully hunted both the Plutonian Javarra and the Uranian Blic;
the captives that he used to create the hybrid may be those beings,
whom he had captured rather than slain, or they may be other beings in
captured after successfully hunting another of their species.
Only one Javarra and one Blic was seen, and so all information is based on that single image. Similarly, only one image of the hybrid was shown.
We don't know the circumstances nor the time period in which the hybrid was created. Was it raised by its parents? Did it have a chance to grow up and learn, or was it advanced to an adult body condition and then thrown into the hunting preserve without any experience or knowledge beyond inherent instincts?
These 4-5 page stories are often
interesting, and a lot was going on in this story, but there are many
questions that will most likely remain unrevealed.
Uranus in the 21st
century is a gas giant and does not truly have a surface on which you could stand, and
certainly not an atmosphere or temperature within which humans can
assist unaided, but who
knows may have occurred 200 years in the future in this reality...
However,
the image in this story may or may not have taken place within a
hunting preserve, perhaps floating in the upper atmosphere?
Similarly, Pluto is a block of ice that was in 2006
on the real world demoted to the status of a dwarf planet, and it is
largely composed of ice with no atmosphere.
Or perhaps they creatures were contained in a base on Earth?
While there is not evidence to support this, it seems likely that in Reality-54136's 23rd century, either humanity colonized/terraformed all of
the planets in Earth's solar system (+/- genetically engineered various animal species there) or else there were pre-existing
lifeforms on each of those planets.
Or, perhaps these worlds are actually hospitable and life-bearing in Reality-54136.
The story was told in the second person, so YOU were the inventor and hunter...that's great, but the character remains unidentified...

CLARIFICATIONS:
The Javarra-Blic hybrid and its parents should be distinguished from:
j![]() (Astonishing I#35/5) - To this end, the hunter somehow crossbred a Plutonian Javarra and a(n) Uranian Blic. However, even the fantastic offspring provided only a routine hunt, and it was slain by the hunter with his neutron gun. Note: By convention,
we might ASSume that the creatures were named from left to right in the
order in which they were named, making the brown creature the Javarra
and the green creature the Blic. Other than that reasonable assumption,
there is nothing to confirm it to be the case. If I was certain, I
probably would have given them each their own profile, but since we
don't know, they just get this combined sub-profile until/unless it it
is ever confirmed. Additionally, we don't know which was
the male and which was the female. Again, you might assume the larger
one to be the male, but that is obviously not the case in all species
and not always even in humans. It is also possible that they were some
sort of functional hermaphrodites. Or perhaps the hunter just combined
their DNA scientifically without sexual reproduction. |
