kransloth-jupiter-54136-mainKRANSLOTH

Classification: Alternate reality (Earth-54136) extraterrestrial race (fauna);
    circa 2223 A.D.

Location/Base of Operations: Jupiter, fifth from the sun in the Sol system

Known Members: None identified

Affiliations: None known

Enemies: Unidentified hunter

First Appearance: Astonishing I#35/5 (October, 1954)

Powers/Abilities: Kransloths are large creatures, possibly fur-covered. Regardless of the thickness of their skin, they cannot withstand a blast from the neutron gun.

Presumably quadrupeds, they can at least stand on their hind limbs for brief periods of time.

They possess fanged teeth and clawed digits, with jointed digits ending in a prominent claw on their thoracic limbs (forelimbs), while their pelvic limbs (hind limbs) have what appear to be bony claws at the end of the metatarsal region.

    They have a large snouts.

Traits: Kransloths appear to be dangerous when threatened, but their typical behavior when not threatened is unrevealed.

Their sharp, fanged teeth would appear to make them carnivorous (or omnivorous), but that is unconfirmed.

Type: Bilaterally symmetric (presumably mammalian) quadrupeds
Eyes
: Two (on head; dark (possibly dark green) color seen)
Fingers
: Three (without opposing thumb)
Toes
: Three
Skin color: Green
Average height/length: Perhaps 8' tall when standing on two limbs and 5' at the shoulder when standing on four limbs

History:

(Astonishing I#35/5) - Considered big game on Jupiter, a Kransloth was taken down by an unidentified hunter with a neutron gun.

Comments: Created by Mannie Banks and unidentified writer.

Only one Kransloth was seen, and so all information is based on that single being. Perhaps the Kransloth we saw was significantly larger or smaller than average.

Terrestrial sloths are xenarthrans, most closely related to anteaters, but who knows about Jovian Kransloths.

Additonally, there is not evidence to support this, but it seems likely that either humanity colonized/terraformed all of the planets in Earth's solar system or else there was pre-existing lifeforms on each of those planets.

The story was told in the second person, so YOU were the inventor and hunter...that's great, but the character remains unidentified...

Of course, Jupiter is a gas giant, so there's not so much of a surface as is seen in this image (and certainly not an atmosphere or temperature within which humans can assist unaided, but who knows may have occurred 200 years in the future in this reality...
