History:
(Greek myth / Incredible Hercules I#114 (fb) - BTS) - After the
Olympian gods Poseidon and Apollo built
walls around the city of Troy as part of their sentence for conspiring
against Zeus, Trojan king Laomedon refused to pay them and Poseidon
unleashed the Monster of Poseidon while Apollo unleashed a pestilence
in revenge.
(Greek myth) - Carried into Troy in a flood, the
Monster of Poseidon began snatching up Trojan citizens. Oracles
foretold that Troy could be spared the Monster's wrath if Laomedon
sacrificed his daughter Hesione to the Monster and Laomedon agreed,
arranging for Hesione to be chained to rocks near the Monster.
Witnessing Hesione being chained as he arrived in Troy, the demigod
Hercules offered to rescue Hesione.
(Greek myth / Incredible Hercules I#114 (fb) - BTS) -
Laomedon hired Hercules, who required Laomedon's magical horses as
payment. Laomedon agreed to Hercules' request, neglecting to mention
that the Monster of Poseidon had been released due to Laemodon reneging
on his payment to Poseidon.
(Incredible Hercules I#114 (fb)) - Hercules battled the Monster of
Poseidon, hurling a spear at the beast while the chained Hesione
watched.
(Greek myth) - Hercules ultimately slew the Monster
of Poseidon with the help of Oicles and Telamon, rescuing Hesione at
the last minute, but Laomedon reneged on his payment to Hercules as
well, leading to Hercules waging war on Troy.
Comments: Adapted into Marvel Comics by Greg Pak, Fred Van Lente, Khoi Pham and Paul Neary.
The Monster of Poseidon's height
and weight were impossible to determine, as we only ever saw its neck
and head emerging from the water, but it's size is massive, as the 6'5"
Hercules was not even as big as the Monster's head (see above image).
