P'QUI race

Classification: Semi-humanoid extraterrestrial race 

Location/Base of Operations: Unidentified planet in the "outer rim" (presumably of the Milky Way Galaxy)

First Appearance: Venom: Space Knight#2 (February, 2016)

Powers/Abilities: The P'qui did not demonstrate any special superhuman powers or advanced skills.

    They could construct wooden huts and docks. They did not appear to use weapons or have any other advanced technology.

    They were burned by the "heat rain" but were protected by their huts, assuming they could reach shelter in time.
    These heat rains may or may not have been natural to their world, or they may have been caused by the drill, in which case they would have ceased have Venom had the drill destroyed.

Traits: The P'qui are a peaceful people.

    They worship the goddess Hjuo, and they pray to her when they needed help. If a being from space aided them following such prayer, they would consider that being to be Hjuo (or at least a manifestation of her).

    They live in villages with apparent wooden huts.

    They speak an unidentified language, although Venom's symbiote could translate it.

Average height: Approximately 4'8" to 5'
Other Distinguishing Features: The P'qui are thin beings with no obvious facial, scalp or body hair. They have no external nares, and they also appear to have a recessed ear canal without any pinna or earlobe-type structure.

History:

(Venom: Space Knight#4 (fb) - BTS) - Gramos required vast quantities of energy to survive. When the Gramosians refused to take the energy from other planets, Mercurio went rogue and began amassing weapons and power from "all over the galaxy."

(Venom: Space Knight#2 (fb) - BTS) <Months ago> - Mercurio's agents placed a drill on the "outer rim" world of the P'qui. To the P'qui, the drill seemed to fall from the sky and land in a valley below a P'qui village.

    The drill burrowed into the ground, displacing the normally docile Fmora from their homes and cutting them off from their food supply, causing them to become more aggressive and presumably to prey on the P'qui.
    The self-running drill filled green canisters with the Fmora's food and then sent them into the sky.

    Considering the drill to be evil and to have upset the balance on their planet, the P'qui prayed to their high power, Hjuo to help them from this plight.

(Venom: Space Knight#2 - BTS) - Hearing the "Cosmos" calling out to him, Venom was drawn to the world of the P'qui.

(Venom: Space Knight#2) - After dispatching a trio of the Fmora that attacked him, he met with the P'qui and then formed a shelter and then a sphere to protect them from the heat rain and bring them down river to their village.

    En route, the P'qui explained how the Fmora were normally docile but that the drill that had fallen from the sky. The P'qui then showed Venom the drill and described the problems it had been causing, leading Venom to instruct 803 to have the his ship (the one he claimed from Kio) target and destroy the drill with its lasers.

    After Venom informed him that the "crab cakes" would be able to access their food again in a few days, which should keep them away from the P'qui, they praised, blessed, and hailed him as Hjou. Venom tried to assure the P'qui that he was just human, but sighed and departed upon realizing that he would not convince them of anything.

(Venom: Space Knight#2 - BTS) - Fellow Klyntar/Agent of the Cosmos Myntril informed Venom that whoever had left that drill had not been sanctioned by any known empire but were rather rogue parties...and that they had been the same parties who had tried to obtain the YT-19.

(Venom: Space Knight#2) - Mercurio's agent Tubin reported that their drill in the outer rim had been destroyed. When Mercurio commented that the life on that planet could not have overcome the drill's automated defenses, Tubin confirmed this to be correct, and noted that they believed it was the same interloper they had encountered before (presumably indicating the being who had intercepted the YT-19 shipment), a Klyntar-bonded human who called himself Venom.

    Mercurio subsequently had Pik Rollo dispatched to bring him the head of Venom.

(Venom: Space Knight#6) - Having aided Venom in taking down Mercurio's Gramosians, the robotic Bhiv lacked a purpose and sought new masters. Venom dropped at least 12 of the Bhiv off on the world of the P'qui, telling the people that the Bhiv could be their insurance in case they had any trouble. As the Bhiv praised Venom as the master and the P'qui hailed and praised him as Hjou, Venom and 803 departed.

(Venom: Space Knight#8 (fb) - BTS) - Having gone rogue, the Venom Klyntar/symbiote lashed out at worlds it had previously helped in conjunction with Flash. The symbiote traveled to the world of the P'qui, injuring a number of them and destroying their homes.

(Venom: Space Knight#8) - Flash, alongside his allies Iqa, Pik Rollo and Tarna, traveled to the world of the P'qui, observing the damage the symbiote had done, after which they departed to pursue the symbiote.

    The race name is derived from a caption that notes that the words Venom heard (in English) were translated from the native P'qui by the Klyntar/symbiote.
    It is possible that P'qui is just their language, and that their race has a different name.
    Or perhaps, they are the P'qui, their world is P'qui, and their language is P'qui...kind of like the song/band/album Big Country...

    How long is a month on P'qui? It may be comparable to a terrestrial month, or it could be significantly longer or shorter.
    A Lunar month is roughly the time from the start of one lunar phase (new moon or full moon) to the start of the next lunar phase of that type.
    Most stories don't specify this and likely assume alien units of time (day, month, year) to be comparable to the respective terrestrial time periods.

    The P'qui are shown only in flashback in Venom: Spaceknight#10.

The "outer rim" planet of the P'qui (maybe that's the name of the planet, as well) was largely earth-like, with swamps, rivers, rocky cliffs, valleys, etc. Flash Thompson seemed to breathe here without external support. Natives races include the P'qui and the Fmora. Visitors included Flash Thompson and the Venom symbiote (separately and together), Iqa, Pik Rollo, Tarna, 803 and at least 12 of the Bhiv, the latter of whom made the world of the P'qui their new home. (Venom: Space Knight#6) - Venom dropped at least 12 of the robotic and purpose/master-seeking Bhiv off on the world of the P'qui, telling the people that the Bhiv could be their insurance in case they had any trouble. .      The planet of the P'qui sometimes had heat rains, which burned the P'qui, although their huts and other forms of shelter protected them.      It is unrevealed whether the heat rain was scalding water or rather an acid (or otherwise corrosive) rain, although I would suspect the latter to be more likely.     These heat rains may or may not have been natural to their world, or they may have been caused by the drill, in which case they would have ceased have Venom had the drill destroyed.
