Powers/Abilities: The sentient Scarecrow is a literal scarecrow made of straw (with a carrot nose) and dressed in ragged clothes. He briefly wore a magical silk top hat that can draw anything (presumably from a pocket dimension). He can walk, move, talk and think like an average adult human.

History:

(Krazy Komics I#22/7 (fb) - BTS) - The sentient Scarecrow stole the magical silk top hat that belonged to Mysto the stage magician. Scarecrow intended to use it to draw out a lot of various items so he could open his own market.

(Krazy Komics I#22/7) - Krazy Krow was hunting for a hat for pal Boobsy's cold head when by chance a gust of wind blew Mysto's top hat from Scarecrow over a fence and into Krazy Krow's hand. Krazy Krow tied the loose fitting hat around little Boobsy's head to keep it secure, but Scarecrow found them, grabbed Boobsy and quickly ran to his hideout where he unwittingly revealed the secret of the magical hat. Krazy Krow found them, so Scarecrow, concerned that the pair knew too much about his plan, decided to kill them with an elaborate device that would drop a safe once the rope had been burnt through by a candle. Scarecrow foolishly pulled out a leg of ham so they wouldn't starve while waiting, but Krazy Krow used it to knock him out and dropped the safe on the villain instead. Believing Scarecrow to only be unconscious, Krazy Krow and Boobsy fled, and returned the magical hat to Mysto.

 

Comments: Creators are uncredited.

There's always room for one more sentient scarecrow! It's unrevealed how this one became "alive"; presumably lightning or chemicals or somesuch.

The full extent of the range of items that could be pulled from Mysto's hat is unrevealed. It seems connected/limited to the user's wishes; Mysto drew out rabbits and cards for his magic act, while Scarecrow also drew out fresh and cured meat for his proposed market, but neither pulled out money or jewels. The size of what could be pulled out appears to be limited to the opening of the hat.

Mysto the Magician

Mysto was a stage magician who relied on his magic top hat for his performances. His mystical hat could draw out all manner of items, from food to rabbits to playing cards. The villainous Scarecrow stole the top hat, intending to use it to open a market, but lost it to Krazy Krow who passed it to pal Boobsy to keep his head warm. After a fight with Scarecrow, Krazy Krow and Boobsy returned the hat to Mysto, who gave them only a dime as reward.
