History:

(
Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 (fb) ) - During the early days of Apocalypse's war on America, US air force major Christopher Summers decided to fly his wife Katherine and infant sons Scott and Alex to Canada where they would be safe. During the flight, their small Cessna plane was spotted by a Shi'ar patrol ship. To make sure their children would survive the encounter, Christopher had his wife strap their boys to the one parachute they had before throwing them out of the plane.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 (fb) ) - The Brood possessed Shi'ar captured Christopher and Katherine and conducted a series of invasive tests on them that Katherine did not survive. Afterwards, he was throw in the brig where he met fellow prisoners Ch'od, Raza Longknife and Hepzibah.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 (fb) - BTS) - At an unrevealed point in time, Christopher Summers was implanted with a Brood Queen embryo (see comments).

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 (fb) - BTS) - After months of planning, Summers and his new allies staged a successful mutiny against their captors. They commandeered the Shi'ar ship and used it for years to exact revenge on the Shi'ar empire that seemed to be involved in a losing war of their own. After some time, Summers longed to return to the planet of his birth so he could try and find his sons. He took a small Shi'ar shuttle and headed for Earth.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 (fb) ) - Summers' shuttle was shot down over New York by Apocalypse's defense forces. The craft crashed in the water of the New Nile where Summers was pulled from the wreckage and brought to the Pens underneath Apocalypse's citadel.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Mister Sinister examined Summers and discovered two fascinating things: he was the biological father of his most promising recruits Scott and Alex. He also carried a mysterious strand of alien DNA within him that warranted further study. Sinister labelled Summers 'test subject #9763' and for the next five years subjected him to continuous, invasive experiments without telling anyone who he really was.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1) - After years of round the clock torture, Christopher Summers suddenly found the strength to break his bonds. He waited for Hank McCoy to check on him during his rounds and took out the beastly doctor with a syringe he found in the lab that had been his home. Evading the Pen's security forces, he escaped into the city, shocked to find he had been in New York all along.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 - BTS) - Disturbed by the fact Summers had escaped, Mr. Sinister sent his Elite Mutant Force out to capture him.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1) - Disoriented, Summers almost got into a fight on the street when a passerby thought he was trying to steal his clothes. Summers was rescued by Joe Robertson who took him to the underground shelter from which he ran the resistance paper The Daily Bugle. Summers got a chance to catch his breath and asked if the newsman happened to known his sons Scott and Alex Summers. He was then shocked to learn they were both prelates, high ranking members of Apocalypse's mutant elite.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 - BTS) - The Brood embryo inside Summers took over. It killed Robertson and left him with a Brood embryo that was rapidly taking over its remains. Before he left, he took a coat, a gun and some bladed weapons from Robertson's cache. Some time later, the Elite Mutant Force located Robertson's remains in the bunker.Aurora flash-fried Robertson when he began to stir because of the Brood embryo trying to take hold.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1) - The Elite Mutant Force now had Summers' scent. They tracked him down to the sealed off Lincoln Tunnel where Emplate and the Monets were the first to engage him. Summers was forced to shoot Emplate, which left the Monet siblings catatonic. He managed to take out Aurora and Northstar by exploding a crashed gas tanker. All the adrenaline and excitement caused the Brood embryo to stir, but he managed to regain control and let them live.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 - BTS) - Summers, influenced by the Brood embryo, wandered into an area of the city known as the Ghost Lands where bands of scavengers and other criminals roamed. He ran into a group of thugs who had kidnapped Colleen Wing and Misty Knight. They were having their way with Wing while Knight was kept chained up in a nearby trash container. Summers, reverting to his bestial Brood mode, slaughtered the scavengers and Colleen, leaving them all with embryos.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 - BTS) - Prelates Scott and Alex Summers investigated the defeat of Mr. Sinister's Elite Mutant Force and traced their enemy down to the Ghost Lands.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1) - Scott and Alex ran into their father who was hiding inside a nearby mausoleum. Though they were initially reluctant to believe his 'flatscan' claims, Christopher managed to convince them when he recounted the tale of their fateful airplane trip. While Alex believed him, Scott had a hard time buying the part about aliens. Their conversation was interrupted when they were attacked by the hungry scavengers Cobra and Mr. Hyde. Summers managed to impress his sons by killing the super strong Hyde on his own. With their patrol bikes destroyed and a bad weather event approaching, they decided to hide for the night inside a nearby church.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 - BTS) - While Alex and his father continued to bond by talking about bikes, Scott conducted a perimeter sweep. Not only did he discover the butchered bodies of the scavengers, he also freed Misty Knight from a trash container.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1) - Scott returned to the church with Misty to warn the others that there was a predator on the loose. At that moment, Christopher Summers instantly knew what was wrong. As if on cue, the church was invaded by the zombie-like scavengers that had already begun their Brood transformation. Christopher urged his sons and Misty to fight them off, but he was more than horrified when one of the creatures tenderly touched him and called him "mother". Before the others could pick up on it, he brutally gutted the changing man-beast.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 - BTS) - Misty Knight was forced to shoot her possessed friend Colleen.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1) - When they tried to flee the church, they ran into an impossible to pass crater. The Summers and Misty were rescued by the arrival of Mr. Sinister who flew in with his personal flyer and blasted the Brood-infected scavengers to bits. Alex and Scott had a lot of questions for Sinister who was more concerned with taking out Christopher. Seconds later, Summers lost control of the Brood embryo for the last time and began to fully turn into a young queen. He attacked and slammed Alex Summers away, announcing to his offspring that it was time for them to join their brood. Sinister tried to apologize to Scott and Alex: he wanted to spare them this truth. This led to the Brood attacking him until Scott Summers saw no alternative than to use the full power of his optic blast to kill the creature.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1) - In his dying moments, Christopher returned to his human form. He thanked Scott for ending his threat, saying that he should never have come back to Earth after being infected. He told his boys to be stronger than he was and to turn away from the road they were on. "This isn't what I raised my sons  to become, you are better than this." Before breathing his last, he told Scott to look after Alex.

(Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 - BTS) - In the aftermath, the body of Christopher Summers and all those he infected were burned in a huge bonfire. While Alex remained furious at Scott for killing their father, the elder Summers took his old man's words to heart and realized it was time that one of them at least started to make some changes.

Considering Earth-295's divergence point from Earth-616 is the death of Charles Xavier, this means that technically Earth-295's Christopher Summers should largely have the same past as his Earth-616 counterpart. However, since most of this has not (yet) been confirmed on panel, it's not included in the profile.

Tales from the Age of Apocalypse: Sinister Bloodlines I#1 was such a hugely enjoyable visit to Earth-295. Ever since the original event, I wondered how a world ruled by Apocalypse would handle "unavoidable" threats from outer space and other dimensions. With or without Xavier, Galactus would have had to show up at some point.

And now the Brood were here... It's a little hard to believe that Summers was poked and prodded for five years straight and neither Sinister or McCoy identified the "alien DNA" for what it was: an embryo. Five years is also exceptionally long for a Brood embryo to hatch, especially because we also don't know when he was first infected.

He was captured by Brood possessed Shi'ar, but it's hard to believe he was implanted during that time: the other members of the Starjammers showed up alive and well in Gambit & The X-Ternals years after the events of Sinister Bloodlines. Maybe it happened on the way to Earth. Still, five years is a long time. It's possible that the embryo's healing factor was continuously overtaxed trying to fix the daily torturous examinations Summers had to endure.

Only when Summers escaped did the Brood embryo take over. Then again, we just have Summers' word for it that he managed to hold the embryo back: he infected a lot of people prior to his transformation without remembering any of it.

All locations mentioned are Earth-295, unless otherwise specified.
