History:
(X-Men Unlimited II#4/2 (fb) - BTS) - During her college days, Maddy met and befriended Emma Frost with whom she became best friends. It was during this time that Frost introduced Maddy to her future husband Doug Hutchinson.
(X-Men Unlimited II#4/2 (fb) - BTS) - Although being in a relationship with Doug, he chose to keep his mutant nature a secret. This, however, wasn't the only secret Doug kept from Maddy as he had an affair with Frost who'd developed romantic feelings for him. Frost promised to never reveal any of his secrets to the world.
(X-Men Unlimited II#4/2 - BTS) - Years later, Maddy and Doug became pregnant and decided to get married. During the wedding-preparations Doug also invited Emma Frost, telling his fiancee he'd felt sorry for the woman.
(X-Men Unlimited II#4/2 - BTS) - Maddy and Doug married in a prestigious church surrounded by their friends, family and high placed socialites, businessmen and X-Men Emma Frost and Wolverine. During the subsequent party Maddy and Doug were showered in compliments by their friends. Noticing Emma at the reception, Maddy stormed towards her former best friend asking how she'd dare show her face at the wedding, she continued and revealed she only received an invitation as Doug had felt sorry for her. Feeling humiliated, Emma returned to Logan's side.
Sometime later during the evening Doug's friend Drew took to the stage to surprise the newly weds with a speech. Making fun at Emma's expense by calling her the "problem" the newly weds had to face in their relationship. Surprised her past was so bluntly smeared all over the stage for the enjoyment of others, Emma decided to take to the stage herself. Maddy and Doug watched as Emma proposed a toast calling Maddy a woman ahead of her time, not merely a friend of mutants but having just married one. With the newly weds and their guests in total shock, Emma raised her glass to Mr. and Mrs. Mutant after which she left the stage causing the crowd to go silent while Doug stumbled, realizing his secret was now out while Maddy tightly held her pregnant belly.

Maddie, another footnote in Frost's ever expanding history, she could easily pop up in a flashback story of Frost's college years.
With a name like Vandervalk she probably has some Dutch roots, although the correct spelling would be "van der Valk".
