History:
("Colgate Junior and Captain America" part 1 (fb) - BTS) - Count Plagula was the most formidable villain in the never-ending battle against children's tooth decay, the sworn enemy of good dental hygiene who vowed to cause havoc on teeth throughout the world. This made him a nemesis to guardians of good dental hygiene such as Colgate Junior and Captain America. On one occasion he and his Decay Demon minions launched an attack on the Dental Museum on Molar III. However the attack triggered an alarm back on Earth, alerting Cap and Colgate Junior, who had just teamed up to protect and educate the world about Plaqula's evil, and more specifically to escort the kids of the Superstar Magic Club on a field trip to Museum.

("Colgate Junior and Captain America" part 2) - In the middle of Plaqula's assault the heroes arrived in the Colgate spaceship. The moment it landed Colgate Junior emerged and took down two of Plaqula's demons with a blast of star-shaped gel with sparkles. Witnessing this, Plaqula ordered the rest of his subordinates to attack the heroes and kids, but they were no match for Colgate's gel or Cap's cavity-busting fists. With his minions about to be defeated, Plaqula grabbed his plaque gun and took the three Superstar Kids hostage, threatening to coat them in plaque and so cause them to lose their teeth if the heroes didn't back off.

("Colgate Junior and Captain America" part 3) - Faced with a threat to the children in their charge the two heroes seemed to back off, and Plaqula watched as they boarded the Colgate spaceship, which then took off and flew away. Watching it depart, Plaqula let go of his hostages so he could turn and taunt them, but once he did so Cap and Colgate Junior stepped out of hiding, having slipped off the ship before launch and piloted it via remote control. Before Plaqula could react he was blasted by Colgate Junior's gel and struck by Cap's shield, then taken prisoner and tied up. Looking at his victorious foes, Plaqula admitted that it looked like he wouldn't be causing any tooth decay today.

Count Plaqula appeared as part of an ad campaign in Star Comics in 1989. The story was told over three pages which appeared in a number of Star Comics titles over the space of the year, with each page running for a few months before the next installment was published. As such, I can't be 100% certain I've pinned down the definite first appearance information as I've not been able to check every single Star Comic published in 1989. Though mentioned in the initial episode, Plaqula didn't actually turn up until the second part.

Would Doctor Decay see Plaqula as an ally who shares a common cause, or, since losing his own teeth is what turned Decay into a villain, would he blame Plaqula for his plight? Though villains themselves, I'd imagine that both Doctor Bob Doom and the Dentist would find themselves instinctively foes of Plaqula. On the other hand, he, Professor Plaque and Doctor Plaque should team up to form the League of Bad Teeth, or the Cavity Crusaders, OSLT.

This profile was produced for the Appendix 25th anniversary's celebratory event to represent Colgate Junior, and to remind kids to brush their teeth.

Decay Demons

The Decay Demons served Count Plaqula, but the diminutive devils proved no match for either Captain America or Colgate Junior.
