History:
(Wolverine/Doop#1 (fb) - BTS) - An obsessed collector of authentic and
extremely rare items, the Collector over time acquired the actual
Shroud of Turin, having swapped it for a copy made during Medieval
times. He also acquired the original Mona
Lisa painting, an actual copy of the poetics of Aristotle rather
than Aristotle's mass-produced lecture notes and the corpse of the
Native American Geronimo, whom he had stuffed. He also obtained an
original copy of the United States Constitution, which he mounted on
his wall under glass.
(Wolverine/Doop#1) - The Collector used his teleportation machine to
steal the artifact known as the Pink Mink from under the noses of an
unidentified scientific research facility, prompting the facility to
hire the mutant Wolverine to track down and return the Pink Mink.
Soon after, while the Collector reveled in the majesty of his newly-acquired Pink Mink, Wolverine jumped through a window and attacked the Collector and his guards, having tracked the Pink Mink to the Collector's estate. The Collector immediately summoned his guards but, marveling at the magnificence of Wolverine, the Collector ordered his guards not to damage Wolverine's surface, expressing a desire to have the deceased Wolverine stuffed and hung next to the stuffed corpse of Geronimo. Two of the Collector's guards pulled guns on Wolverine, who promptly slashed his way out of the situation. During the scuffle, Wolverine dodged the guards' gunfire, which hit many of the Collector's artifacts, including the original U.S. Constitution and a priceless Egyptian statue. When the Collector's Egyptian statue fell onto the stasis device holding the Pink Mink, the stasis field dissipated, allowing the Mink to come into contact with oxygen. Once the Mink touched oxygen, it began to release clouds of pink smoke that filled the room as the Collector crawled away to escape. Mesmerized by the pink smoke as the Collector berated Wolverine for letting the Mink touch oxygen, Wolverine was soon shocked to see the mysterious Pink Lady appear, grab the Mink and disappear in a flash of lightning.
Two weeks later, after Wolverine enlisted the aid
of X-Statix's Doop to continue his search for the now-missing Pink
Mink, the duo tracked the Collector to an unidentified penthouse,
confirming that the Collector must own the penthouse by the ancient
Egyptian ankh being utilized as a door-knocker. Hoping to determine
whether Wolverine's vision of the Pink Lady was real or if the
Collector had somehow duped the hero and stolen back the Pink Mink,
Wolverine and Doop kicked down the door to the Collector's penthouse
and found it covered in pink paint. Doop and Wolverine then discovered
the Collector's lifeless body hanging from the ceiling with a bucket of
pink paint on his head and a note attached that read "She's real." Upon
seeing the Collector's corpse, Wolverine suggested the Collector be
preserved and displayed in a museum. Doop and Wolverine then visited a
bar and discussed the situation, with Wolverine wondering what the
Collector's death really proved, curious if the Collector had simply
went nuts or if another collector had perhaps stolen the Pink Mink and
left the note on the Collector's corpse to send the heroes on a wild
goose chase.
