History: (Dr. Strange II#53)- When Morganna Blessing's soul threatened to disrupt the birth of mankind, which would have left Nightmare without any mortal dreams for him to exist on. This crisis resulted in Nightmare having a nightmare, which assumed physical form as Gnit.
Gnit showed Nightmare images covering Dr. Strange's journey into the past on Nightmare's behalf to save mankind. As Gnit prattled on and on, explaining everything to Nightmare, Nightmare finally grew tired of him and swatted him aside, but the impact created a second Gnit, resulting in even more of his talking.
After Dr. Strange succeeded in saving mankind, Nightmare was set free of his personal nightmare, and immediately destroyed both Gnits, much to his delight.
