HYDRA-RAM
Classification: Terrestrial technology
Creator: Unidentified HYDRA scientists, modified by Tony Stark and S.H.I.E.L.D.
Users/Possessors: HYDRA's Tiger Division, S.H.I.E.L.D. (including Dum-Dum Dugan, Nick Fury, Gabe Jones)
First Appearance: Strange Tales I#136/1 (September, 1965)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Hydra-Ram was a hovercraft which could seat over a half-dozen people inside. While it was possessed by HYDRA, it featured a battering ram, a laser-cutting beam, and a powerful electro-magnet, all used for breaking into facilities. S.H.I.E.L.D. removed these devices when they took possession of it, allowing the vessel to travel faster than it had before. Later, Tony Stark added a force field and cannons to the Hydra-Ram. The Hydra-Ram also contained a homing device so that its pilots could find HYDRA's headquarters.
History: (Strange Tales I#136/1) - When HYDRA believed they had found S.H.I.E.L.D.'s headquarters in an abandoned warehouse, their assassins called in a Hydra-Ram to assist them, and it managed to break into the warehouse, only to activate a number of booby traps, including a sticky fluid which snared the Hydra-Ram, making it unable to lift off. S.H.I.E.L.D. took possession of the Hydra-Ram.
(Strange Tales I#137/1) - Fury examined the captured Hydra-Ram as he pondered the difficulties S.H.I.E.L.D. was having in identifying HYDRA's leaders. He noted that HYDRA didn't even miss the Hydra-Ram.
(Strange Tales I#139/1) - After having modified the Hydra-Ram, S.H.I.E.L.D. was able to determine that it contained a homing device which they could use to locate HYDRA's base. Dum-Dum Dugan and Gabe Jones led a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents aboard the Hydra-Ram, and used its homing device to find HYDRA's base.
(Strange Tales I#141/1) - After HYDRA had been defeated, Gabe flew Fury back to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters aboard the Hydra-Ram.
(Strange Tales I#143/1) - After Fury had been captured by the Fixer and Mentallo, Dugan led a team of agents aboard the Hydra-Ram to the site where Tony Stark was constructing the Neutralizer, in an attempt to defeat the Fixer and Mentallo.
(Strange Tales I#149/1) - S.H.I.E.L.D. agents led by Dum-Dum Dugan flew the Hydra-Ram to retrieve Nick Fury after he had been captured by AIM.
(Strange Tales I#153/1) - Fury and Dugan completed modifications Tony Stark had made to the Hydra-Ram, and used it on a mission to rescue Laura Brown, Gabe Jones and Jasper Sitwell from HYDRA agents.
(Incredible Hulk II#106) - The Hydra-Ram was seen in a hangar bay aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.
