(Howard the Duck I#5 (fb) - BTs) - In the spirit of
Crusher Hogan,
the Cleveland Athletic Association offered $10, 000 to any man who could last
three rounds with wrestling champion Emile "The Goat" Klout.
(Howard the Duck I#5) - Klout savagely pummel a series of
challengers. beating his chest in triumph, but he next faced Howard the Duck,
who sought the money to pay the rent. Howard was experienced with Quak-Fu, but
found that his assaults were of little use against a foe whose profession was
withstanding pain. Klout leapt at the small duck, but when Howard dodged his
attack, Klout went straight through the floor of the ring. As Klout climbed back
out of the hole, Howard caught him off guard with a flying head-butt, knocking
Klout out of the ring, and knocking him unconscious.
However, when Howard removed his handkerchief, revealing
himself to be a duck, Klout's manager declared the contest to be void, since the
ad specifically stated any "man" who could stay in the ring. Still, they agreed
to a compromise, giving Howard enough money to pay his bills.
