History: (Uncanny X-Men#383 (fb, BTS))- Simyon Kurasov is a member of the Thieves Guild, and had some relation to Achmed El-Gibar, a famed thief from Egypt. He eventually became a self-styled monarch of Moscow's underworld.
(Uncanny X-Men#383)- Kurasov was relaxing in his mansion one night when he was swept into the sky by Storm, a member of the X-Men. Storm told Kurasov how several of her fellow X-Men had been taken prisoner by Ransome Sole at "the Slash" nightclub, and requested his aid. When Kurasov learned she had been mentored by Achmed El-Gibar, he agreed to help, but noted that by invoking El-Gibar's name, she would be taking upon herself all of El-Gibar's debts and obligations. Storm was willing to do so, so Kurasov concocted a scheme with her.
Kurasov brought a robot duplicate of Storm to the Slash and presented it to Ransome Sole, who believed it to be the real Storm. Kurasov stood by while Ransome auctioned the captive X-Men off to the Shockwave Riders and Tullamore Voge, but when the real Storm appeared, he realized he had been tricked. He attacked Kurasov, but the Beast came to his rescue and brought him to safety. Ultimately, the X-Men and Ransome's other prisoners were all set free, and Ransome Sole and his allies were all either captured or fled.

Exactly how the Thieves Guild of Moscow relates to Gambit's guild in New Orleans is unclear.
