Powers/Abilities: Flip Mason was a second-rate comedian and wannabe gunman, but only ever carried a fake gun.

History: (Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Flip Mason was a lousy stand-up comedian trying to make it big in Las Vegas. Plunging himself into debt, he borrowed money from the gangster Mitch Hackett.

(Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#1) - Afraid of what Hackett might do to him if he didn't pay him back, Mason gambled the last of his money, but lost it all. He planned to rob a teller with a fake gun, but was mistaken by a gangster for Mitch Hackett, and handed a suitcase containing $200,000. Unaware that the gangster had placed a bomb inside, intending to kill Hackett, Mason took off with the money. He phoned his wife in San Francisco to tell her the good news, but the bomb went off just as he dialed, and he was killed.

MITCH HACKETT

Mitch Hackett was a Kansas City member of the "syndicate" (Maggia?) who had loaned Flip Mason money. He went to Las Vegas to collect $200,000 from another gangster, but the gangster gave the suitcase to Mason instead. Hackett accused the gangster of a double-cross, and they shot at each other. Mortally wounded, Hackett fired a wild shot that struck down the aircraft of the criminal Scorpio, then died.
