MERIAM
Real Name: Meriam
Identity/Class: Sea Nymph
Occupation: Survival
Group Membership: Circus of Lost Souls
Affiliations: Hulk
Enemies: Circus of Crime
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Mobile, from the sea abyss to the surface
First Appearance: Incredible Hulk II#217 (November, 1977)
Powers/Abilities: She was called "Sea-Witch" by Ringmaster, but she probably was a Sea Nymph. Nothing is known about her powers, except that she probably could breathe and live underwater far better than on the surface. Meriam's skin is flawless alabaster, her hair the frothing foam that caps a wave, her eyes the fathomless darkness at the bottom of the sea, and her voice like the ocean's whisper in a conch shell.
History: (Incredible Hulk II#217 (fb) - BTS) - Meriam lived in the sea. She felt alone, and the abysses had no more secrets for her, so she decided to go and live with the people of the surface.
(Incredible Hulk II#217 (fb) - BTS) - She was found by Flower and other members of the Circus on a beach and brought to the Ringmaster's Circus. But there, she was imprisoned by Ringmaster who wanted her to reveal the secrets of the treasures hidden in the seas.
(Incredible Hulk II#217 (fb) - BTS) - Stilt, Flower, and Rex freed Meriam, Major Minor joined to them, and they all escaped from the Circus to protect Meriam. But Meriam suffered from her distance from the sea. She understood that she needed the sea to give her life.
(Incredible Hulk II#217) - One day Meriam's friends found Hulk wandering near their caravan, and they brought Hulk to her. She was so beautiful that Hulk didn't feel to stay with them and wanted to go away, but her words and the others' welcomes convinced the giant to remain with them.
One evening, she talked to the Hulk about their common condition of solitary beings, but moments later she fainted. That night her friends were attacked by the Circus of Crime and they all were captured.
Back at the Ringmaster's Circus, Meriam was again questioned by Ringmaster about the ancient secrets she should have possessed. She refused any reply, although she was threatened by that "evil sir". But Hulk was freed by Major Minor, and he attacked Ringmaster and the Circus and some minutes later Meriam was freed, too. She voiced the desire to go back home, and the Hulk, very unhappily, accepted her decision. With a tender kiss, Hulk laid her down in the frothy waters of the waves and returned her to the sea. (Ahh! I can't describe it! You must see this panel! The story is nothing of exceptional but this panel is all worth the expense of the issue!!)
