Powers/Abilities: Salvation-1 was constructed from adamantium, rendering it immune to most harm, save at one point in its midsection which would cause it to shut down when struck. "Sal" stood around 12 feet high, could identify the Avengers by their brain-wave patterns, responded to a homing device controlled by Pym, and possessed powerful vise-like hands for ensnaring its targets.
History: (Avengers I#213) - When Hank Pym was in danger of losing his membership in the Avengers because of rashly assaulting Elfqueen, he became convinced that the only way to redeem himself was to create a menace which he could then defeat himself. He barricaded himself in his laboratory for three days, designing the robot he named "Salvation-1."
On the day of Hank's hearing, he was still completing his work on "Sal" when the Wasp entered his lab. Continuing to exhibit irrational behavior, Hank was furious with her at first, then activated Sal to demonstrate his powers. The Wasp was unable to escape Sal's powerful grip, but Hank demonstrated the robot's weak spot to her, explaining his plan. The Wasp disapproved of his plan, and he responded by striking her in the face, giving her a black eye.
Hank's hearing went poorly, and he summoned Sal to disrupt the proceedings, but the Wasp immediately told her teammates that Hank was Sal's creator. Sal quickly defeated Tigra, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America, and moved so quickly that even Pym was overcome, unable to strike its weak spot. Fortunately, the Wasp struck Sal in its weak spot, deactivating it. Pym departed the Avengers in disgrace.
