History:
(Strange Tales I#133/2 (fb) - BTS) - Shazana is a native to an extradimensional
realm that was ruled by her half-sister.
(Strange Tales I#133/2 (fb) - BTS) - At some point in the past Shazana tempted an unsuspecting magician to endow her with the secret of timeless spells. Once she'd gained the power she had hungered for, Shazana annihilated the man who had violated his sacred oaths by training her. To safeguard the source of her power, she concealed her mystic symbol globe beneath the royal throne of her realm. Armed with the usurped rights of sorcery, Shazana easily defeated her half-sister and made the throne her own.
(Strange Tales I#133/2) - Dr. Strange fled from an assault from the Dormammu-enhanced Baron Mordo, arriving in Shazana's realm. There he met Shazana's half-sister, who warned him of Shazana, but the two were then captured by one of Shazana's agents and brought before Shazana herself. Though Strange attempted peaceful communications, Shazana saw him as a threat and attacked him. Weakened by his battle with Mordo, Strange was unable to stand up to her assault, but instead feigned even greater weakness. Deciding he was not a threat at all, Shazana decided to let him live in captivity. However, Strange then used the Eye of Agamotto to learn Shazana's origins from her pet, after which he summoned her half-sister, who aided him in reaching the throne room. He then absorbed Shazana's magical globe into himself, leaving her powerless. Broken by this defeat, Shazana collapsed to the ground, while her half-sister retook the throne.
(Clandestine#8 (fb)) - Shazana and her pet briefly beheld Dominic
Destine as he was flung through their dimension by a portal he had inadvertantly accessed
through a puzzle box.
(Defenders I#41 (fb) - BTS) - Shazana went on to develop
magical powers of her own to replace those that were formerly dependent on the
globe of power. (Defenders I#41 (fb)) - Trish Starr became bored while working
on the development of the "Dune People" commune in Nevada. She began to dabble
in the occult, until one day she somehow accessed mystic power which caused her
to become hostile and distant before vanishing, leaving only her address book,
containing Kyle Richmond's name, circled in red. Trish had actually been
assaulted by Shazana, and she had willingly left the commune, formed a magical
shield, and shut down her mind to prevent Shazana from accessing Earth. (Defenders I#41) - Dr. Strange accompanied Kyle to the commune
after being summoned by Trish's friend David Anthony. Dr. Strange identified a
magical force field within which he found Trish, rescuing her from demon
creatures and returning her to the Earthly plane. However, when he probed her
with the Eye of Agamotto, he unwittingly unleashed Shazana and her troops on
Earth. While Strange held off Shazana, one of her knights held a knife to
Trish's throat, forcing Strange and Nighthawk's surrender. Shazana then took
over the commune, rechristening it the "Citadel of Shazana" and imprisoning
Strange, Nighthawk, and Trish within a cube tied to their very life forces that
would kill them if it were shattered. Strange accessed Shazana's mind via Trish's
psychic connection to her, and through Shazana he contacted Clea and the
Defenders (Hulk, Red Guardian (Tania Belinsky), Valkyrie (Brunnhilde)),
summoning them to the commune. Pained by Strange's manipulation, Shazana pulled
Trish from the cube and prepared to have her executed, but the Defenders arrived
in time to save her. Strange and Clea combined forces to expand the cube until
is dissolved, its energies flowing back into Strange and Nighthawk. As the
Defenders battled Shazana's forces, Strange defeated Shazana with a
"middle-level spell of immobilization" and then banished her and her troops back
to her realm. (Dr. Strange: Sorcerer Supreme#47 (fb)) - Necromancer ended up
in Shazana's realm, and he used his powers (amplified by power usurped from
Eternity) to defeat both Shazana and her half-sister (still ruler of the realm).
He then took control of Shazana's demon subjects and brought them to Earth-616
as his agents in a plot to kill and replace Dr. Strange. (Dr. Strange: Sorcerer Supreme#47 - BTS) - After Necromancer's
defeat, Strange sent the demons back to Shazana's realm. Comments: Created by Stan "The Man" Lee and "Sturdy"
Steve Ditko. I would name Shazana's realm Drakos, and I would name her
sister Nazakka, and her put Ubbu. I'd leave her former mentor unidentified, for
now. Shazana has an entry in Mystic Arcana: The Book of Marvel Magic. In this entry Nazakka and Ubbu became official names. Profile by Snood. Clandestine information added by Prime Eternal CLARIFICATIONS:
