History: (Avengers: Celestial Quest#3 (fb)) - After the Kree attempted to annihilate the Cotati, most of the Cotati, as well as a few Priests of Pama, fled their home planet, Hala. The Cotati eventually settled on the planet Tamal, where they grew various forms of plant life.
(Avengers: Celestial Quest#3) - Upon discovering that the mad Titan Thanos was intent on destroying the Celestial Messiah (i.e. Mantis's son), Mantis gathered a group of Avengers, with the Squadron Supreme member Haywire in tow, and traveled to the planet Tamal to ensure her son's safety. As they arrived, they were greeted by the Cotati Elder, the only Cotati who was capable of mobility. The Cotati Elder introduced Mantis to her son, Quoi, whom she had not seen since his birth due to her "death." Mantis explained Thanos' intent to the Cotati Elder and Quoi, but Quoi angrily declined their help. Later, after Mantis spoke personally with the Cotati Elder, Vision mistakenly thought that the Cotati Elder was romantically involved with Mantis. Mantis explained to Vision that she and the Cotati Elder no longer had any feelings for one another, not knowing that the cosmic embodiment of Death was watching them.
(Avengers: Celestial Quest#4) - While on Tamal, Mantis once again spoke with her son, Quoi. The other Avengers practiced against one another, while the Vision relaxed on a hillside.
(Avengers: Celestial Quest#5) - During a night on Tamal, Mantis was awakened suddenly by a telepathic cry from Quoi, who had been kidnapped by the reptilian space pirate Raptra in an attempt to stop Thanos herself. Terrified that Thanos had kidnapped her son to kill him, Mantis began to panic, but was calmed by the Vision, who explained that Thanos never attacks indirectly. As the Avengers prepared to save Quoi, the collective Cotati explained that they had failed at protecting the Celestial Messiah known as Quoi. The Cotati Elder argued with the collective until they drew his mind into the collective and he attacked the Avengers, claiming that they had cost them their greatest treasure. Once they subdued the Cotati Elder, the collective Cotati began to attack the Avengers by sprouting ensnaring vines and pods that emitted gas. Silverclaw and Haywire were seperated from the rest of the team by the Valley of Spikes, but managed to make their way back to the Avengers Quinjet. The duo were quickly followed by Vision and Mantis, who were carrying the unconscious Thor and Scarlet Witch. As the entire team made it back to the Quinjet, the jet took off into space, leaving behind the planet Tamal and a group of angry Cotati.
