UNIVERSAL COMPRESSOR
Classification: Terrestrial energy-manipulating device
Creator: Professor Harker
Users/Possessors: Professor Harker, Nebula
First Appearance: Avengers I#306 (August, 1989)
Powers/Abilities: The Universal Compressor was designed to concentrate the force of a one megaton nuclear explosion into an area smaller than the nucleus of an atom. When activated, it could send out a "Genesis Pulse," destroying the entire universe and creating a new one in its place. Nebula siphoned energy from the Universal Compressor into the Infinity Union.
History:
(Avengers I#306) - Professor Harker went to check on his Universal Compressor, having forgotten about the inverter, which might have overheated.
(Avengers I#308) - Harker tested the Compressor, resulting in an explosion which destroyed his house. "Almost...That was almost it!!" he remarked.
(Avengers I#309 - BTS) - Harker brought the designs for the compressor to Polydyne, and impressed the staff with his vision.
(Avengers I#314) - Nebula and Harker tested the compressor at Polydyne, and briefly made the universe disappear. When they ran it again, they were able to maintain its effect, destroying everything except for Polydyne, and a room in Avengers Mansion protected by Sersi.
(Avengers I#315) - Nebula believed that the compressor was the power source she needed for the Infinity Union, but was chagrined when she realized that with the universe destroyed, her plans were for naught. When the Avengers arrived at Polydyne to confront her, Harker tried to tell them how to shut the compressor down, but Nebula slew him. Ultimately, Spider-Man was able to unplug the compressor, causing the universe to reappear exactly as it had been before.
