History: (War Machine I#20 (fb) - BTS) - A body-builder driven insane by the steroids that had given him superhuman strength, Wolfgang believed everyone around him to be jealous of him, and attacked everyone in his path, demanding they get out of his way and leave him alone.
“Wolfgang works out. Wolfgang looks good, but he wants to look better. Wolfgang gives eight hundred bucks to a guy on the beach and gets a little special something in a plastic baggie. Wolfgang goes into spasms, defibrillates and collapses in a coma by the pier hut. Then Wolfgang wakes up again. Hello, Wolfgang. Goodbye, Santa Monica.”
(War Machine I#20) - Wolfgang went on a drug-fuelled rampage, convinced everyone was jealous of him, hurling cars around. He reached the San Diego freeway, and tore the roof off a police car that had been called in.
War Machine caught one of the cars Wolfgang had thrown, and flew in to investigate the situation. A blast from his Warware armor knocked Wolfgang away from the police, but he was unable to reason with Wolfgang, who thought War Machine was also jealous of him. War Machine evaded Wolfgang’s punch, and put him in a headlock, but Wolfgang broke free and hurled him into a bridge. Wolfgang charged at War Machine, but was easily confused by a pair of drone gun-platforms which launched from the Warware and circled him. They bombarded him with phased alpha-waves, which slowed his metabolism, and pushed his mind into a fugue shutdown, giving his body a chance to fight the toxins.
War Machine told the police to call for medical attention and an expert toxicologist for Wolfgang, who one of them recognised as a local body-builder.
Comments: Created by Dan Abnett & Fred Haynes.
It’s possible that the drugs had a negative effect on Wolfgang’s intelligence, or maybe he was just kind of dumb to begin with.
Yes, Marvel really did trademark the name ‘Wolfgang’, and give him his own logo, and yes, this issue was part of "The Crossing", but Wolfgang is completely unaffected by subsequent…violations…of the story.
