LUKAS
Real Name: Lukas
Identity/Class: Extradimensional (Ultraverse) human mutate
Occupation: Robber
Group Membership: None
Affiliations: None
Enemies: Mosely, police officers (including SWAT), Rafferty, Walkovia Bank tellers
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Detroit, U.S.A.
First Appearance: Firearm#9 (June, 1994)
Powers/Abilities: Lukas had enhanced human durability, only with regard to his bulletproof skin. His powerful frame indicated athlete level strength, and his stamina to endure sieges and chases suggest athlete level as well. All else appeared normal. He stood about 6' tall.
He had a bald head, long black moustache, brown eyes, hairy armpits, and wore black pants and boots, plus matching utility belt, but liked to go topless. He initially had two hoop earrings in the bank heist, but these had disappeared by his second appearance.
Curiously, Lukas had two zippers on his head, one over the top right part of his head and the other zipping his left eye socket shut. Why and how these came about was not revealed. The head one could have been decorative, but the eye-zip might have covered an actual wound, as one eye would restrict his vision.
He knew how to fire guns and had access to them, including submachine-guns and, given reports of his brutality, probably used edged weapons as well. He had a savage disposition.
History:
(Firearm#16 (fb) BTS) - Undertaking a huge sweep of the U.S.A., over 300 ultras were pinpointed for Mosely and marked for death, including Lukas. Hired by Mosely, Rafferty began formulating plans to kill these ultras, starting with the lesser ones first to hone his ultra-killing skills.
(Firearm#12 (fb) - BTS) - Rafferty began a savage and brutal crime wave in Detroit that targeted banks, jewelry stores and the like.
(Firearm#9) - At 6p.m., Lukas emerged from Walkovia Bank to face a SWAT team, assembled to lay siege to his robbery. They opened fire upon Lukas given his brutality against the bank tellers.
(Firearm#12 (fb) - BTS) - Several weeks after Lukas started his rampage, Rafferty secretly placed a small but highly combustible pellet in Lukas' afternoon lunch of hamburger and fries.
(Firearm#12) - That night, at least nine police officers and two police cars fired their guns at Lukas as he emerged from a Jewelry Exchange with a sack full of assorted jewelry. Lukas answered back with sub-machine-gunfire and shouted in defiance, the police bullets bouncing off his skin, as with previous robberies.
At that point, Rafferty's pellet activated, glowing green through his body from inside his stomach, light bursting up out of his mouth. His hand muscles contracted and he fired the gun harmlessly into the pavement. And so he died, showing that bulletproof does not equal invulnerable.
Comments: Created by James Robinson (writer), Cully Hamner (penciler) & John Lowe (inker).
Presumably, the pellet had a coating that, once dissolved in the stomach, caused it to ignite.
Firearm#12 was the Prologue to the 6-part "Rafferty Saga" in Firearm, which spilled over into several other Ultraverse titles. This issue was really Rafferty's, with the murder of each minor ultra character shown in one large page. None died in battle, but were stalked and killed, usually with something to do with their ultra power.
