Base of Operations: New York City
First Appearance: Tales of Suspense I#96 (December, 1967)
History: (Tales of Suspense I#96/2) - After Steve Rogers announced to the public that he would no longer be Captain America, several men attempted to take his place by wearing their own copies of his costume. Of the many imitators, three were brought to a local police station after trying to stop crimes, only to be roughed up themselves. One of them had become Captain America in the hopes of getting a job with a carnival; another wanted to impress his girlfriend; the third wanted to prove to his co-workers that he was athletic.
A fourth imposter, hired by a judo studio for publicity, was mistaken by a pair of criminals for the real Captain America, and was attacked by them. The criminals shot at the imposter, and he fell off a roof. Fortunately, Steve Rogers witnessed his plight, and came to the man's rescue, catching him in mid-air. The Sniper, a man hired by a criminal syndicate to kill Captain America, saw Rogers' actions and tried to kill both men, but Rogers was able to evade his gunfire, and brought the imposter to the ground safely.
