CLIVE SANDERS
Real Name: Clive Sanders
Identity/Class: Extradimensional (Ultraverse) human mutate
Occupation: Would-be fiction writer, hopeful hero
Group Membership: None
Affiliations: None
Enemies: Mosely, Rafferty
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Chicago, U.S.A.
First Appearance: Firearm#10 (July, 1994)
Powers/Abilities:Clive Sanders had "ultra" strength and speed (probably enhanced human levels), plus X-ray vision. Given that he deliberately ignored his powers, he would have had little training in their use, and would've had normal stamina, durability and reflexes.
He also had black hair with a little curl on his forehead and a prominent chin. He had good computer word processing skills and seemed to have some level of wealth given his apartment. He wore spectacles and was probably about 6' tall.
History:
(Firearm#16 (fb) BTS) - Undertaking a huge sweep of the U.S.A., over 300 ultras were pinpointed for Mosely and marked for death, including Clive Sanders. Hired by Mosely, Rafferty began formulating plans to kill these ultras, starting with the lesser ones first to hone his ultra-killing skills.
(Firearm#10) - In the study of his large upper-story apartment, by the light of the fireplace and a computer screen, while writing into his diary, Clive Sanders felt again a twinge of shame that he did not utilize his ultra powers for the civic good to right wrongs and save lives. However, he realized that he did not care for long, as he focused again on his ambition to be a writer and his dream of writing a great novel.
(Firearm#12) - While typing in some fiction prose on his computer in his study, Clive Sanders became distracted by the radio, which delivered news accounts of a bank robbery and an assault. He shouted against the impossibility of having the capabilities to thwart evil, but doing nothing. He stopped typing and seriously considered, probably for the first time, using his ultra powers to benefit society. However, the hero inside Clive Sanders awakened too late, as Rafferty's oversized knife was thrown deep into his chest, killing the hopeful hero.
Comments: Created by James Robinson (writer) & Gary Erskine (artist).
The drawn character, context and powers indicate him to be modeled (loosely) on Clark Kent (Superman) (he could've called himself Ultraman - or is that already taken?).
Firearm#12 was the Prologue to the 6-part "Rafferty Saga" in Firearm, which spilled over into several other Ultraverse titles. This issue was really Rafferty's, with the murder of each minor ultra character shown in one large page. None died in battle, but were stalked and killed, usually with something to do with their ultra power.
