History: (Nick Fury Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.#6 (fb)) - The Encoders were LMDs created by the Deltite and programmed to worship Nick Fury as their saviour. They were armed with spears which could fire blasts of energy.
(Nick Fury Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.#1) - The Encoders received the power core from the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier after it was stolen by HYDRA and brought to Roxxon. They were spied upon from a distance by Jack Rollins and Nick Fury.
(Nick Fury Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.#4) - An Encoder attempted to prepare Kate Neville for encoding, but she resisted them, complicating matters.
(Nick Fury Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.#5) - After the Laura Brown LMD had brought the heads of many of the Earth's greatest corporations to Roxxon House in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the Encoders were summoned to prepare all of them for encoding. Back at the Industrial Complex, the Encoders were shown images of Clay Quartermain, the newest Deltan model, and they were impressed with his achievements. The Deltite then appeared to them, informing them that the time of ascension was close at hand. They received a number of new agents to be encoded, including Valentina De Fontaine, and when Gabe Jones and Timothy "Dum-Dum" Dugan invaded Roxxon's property, they shot down their craft.
The Encoders dealt with the Deltan model of Kate Neville, which was not completed yet, and still sensitive. When they mishandled it, it caused a psychic backlash in the real Neville. Encoders in the Himalayas found Nick Fury as he was searching for a HYDRA base, and prepared to enact their Ascension by bringing him to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Satellite. An Encoder clashed with Dugan and Jones outside of the Industrial Complex, but it and all the other Encoders on Earth self-destructed once the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were all transported to the satellite.
(Nick Fury Vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.#6) - The Encoders assisted in preparing Nick Fury to have the Infinity Formula transferred to another body, but the Deltite chose this honor for himself rather than Clay Quartermain, the one the Encoders favoured. When the Deltite's motives were exposed as being self-interested, his beloved ordered the Encoders to execute him, and they complied. All of the Encoders aboard the satellite were destroyed when Quartermain caused an overload in the power core.
