HELEN
Real Name: Helen Lipinski
Identity/Class: Presumably human (nature never clarified) energy manipulator
Occupation: Student
Group Membership: None
Affiliations: Sought to play with Micronauts
Enemies: Micronauts (Acroyear, Cilicia, Marionette, Arcturus Rann)
Known Relatives: Unidentified mother
Aliases: "Child Eyes" (the title of the story)
Base of Operations: Saugerties, New York
First Appearance: Micronauts I#18 (June, 1980)
Powers/Abilities: Helen can animate and control the dolls of her dollhouse. It is unclear whether she could affect other materials. Presumably the power was inherent in her, but it may be that she only drew it from the dolls. She could also fire destructive energy blasts from her eyes.
It's uncertain whether she animated a toy car, or merely pushed it.
History: Helen's origins are unknown, though her mother assumed her fantastic stories were just make-believe.
(Micronauts I#18) - Helen was playing with her dollhouse in a field outside of her home when Arcturus Rann and Marionette of the Micronauts entered it. Wishing to play with these "toys" that moved on their own, Helen animated the butler, "Jeeves", to ambush Mari, holding off her mouth and nose until she passed out, then carrying her outside to Helen.
(Micronauts I#18 - BTS) - When Arcturus Rann attempted to go looking for Mari, Helen had one of the dolls push a bookcase on top of him, trapping him underneath.
(Micronauts I#18) - Acroyear and Cilicia followed shortly after Rann and Mari, and Helen launched a toy car at them, which Acroyear promptly shattered with his sword. Realizing their friends were in danger, the two Acroyear warriors rushed into the dollhouse. Helen sent the dolls to swarm over them, but Acroyear ripped a handrail off the stairs and forced them through the dollhouse's wall. They found and freed Rann, after which the remaining dolls assaulted them, but the three Micronauts quickly began to destroy their attackers. Frustrated, Helen fired an eyeblast into the dollhouse, hoping to find and destroy the invaders before the entire dollhouse was destroyed. The Micronauts dodged the devastating blasts, but then Helen's mom interrupted her. Telling Helen that she had been calling her for an hour and that her supper was getting cold, her mom led her back to their real house. Helen told her mom about her encounter, but her mom dismissed it as her imagination.
Comments: Created by Bill Mantlo, Howard Chaykin, and Al Milgrom.
The natural assumption would be that Helen was a mutant, but then she'd be subject to that...uh...wonderful M-Day idea and might have lost her abilities. I'd be more inclined to think that her dolls originally came from Nathan Dolly, Django Maximoff, or the Puppet Master. Or she could have been an alien, or the dollhouse could be extraterrestrial. Or it was a demon dollhouse. Or something.
I'd go with Helen Mantlo. Easy pick. And her mom would be Linda Mantlo, to give good luck to both of my realtors...anyway, I'd also name her Dollhouse. Why not?
Her last name was revealed in Arcturus Rann's OHOTMU A-Z HC#9 profile.
