MURAITAK
Real Name: Muraitak
Identity/Class: Extraterrestrial (Skrulls)
Occupation: Star-Corps warrior
Group Membership: Star-Corps (Grot, Tas'wzta)
Affiliations: Nova (Rich Rider)
Enemies: Kraa
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: "Murray";
impersonated Namorita, Zorr, many others
Base of Operations: Mobile throughout known space
First Appearance: (Unidentified) Nova II#1 (January,
1994)
(Named) Nova II#15 (March, 1995)
Powers/Abilities: As a Skrull, Muraitak can alter his form and appearance, generally to anything within 90% to 125% of his initial volume (though he seemed much larger than the average Skrull). He wore a Centurion costume which allowed him to survive, fly, and navigate through space and to fly through air, as well.
History:
(Nova II#15 (fb) - BTS) - At some point Muraitak joined the Star-Corps, serving
under Queen Adora.
(Nova II#15) - Alongside Grot, Muraitak accepted Queen Adora's
mission to travel to Earth to retrieve Nova (Rich Rider) to help stop the mad
Luphomoid Kraa, who was slaughtering all things associated with Xandar. Posing
as Nova's teammate Namorita/Kymaera, Muraitak got close enough to release a gas
that knocked him out. Muraitak and Grot then grabbed Nova and took him through a
stargate towards the site where a previous StarCorps squad had headed to
confront Kraa. They found a badly damaged Nova-Ship which contained Tas'wzta, a
Corpsman who had been badly injured in a recent battle against Kraa. Recovering,
Nova told the others it was not his fight and prepared to head back home.
Muratak told Nova they would fight to the death to force him to stay, but
Tas'wzta told him that his world could be the next to fall before Kraa.
Just then Kraa attacked the Nova-Ship. Muraitak helped Nova
locate the Nova-Ship's main power core for its weapon systems, disconnect it,
and hook it up to a matter-conversion chamber, after which Nova fired a blast
that damaged Kraa's death-ship, though the Nova-Ship was destroyed in the
resulting explosion.
(Nova II#16 (fb) - BTS) - Muraitak somehow escaped the exploding Nova-Ship, though he was seriously injured.
(Nova II#16) - Nova and Kraa battled on the nearby planet, with Kraa gaining the advantage. Before Kraa could finish off Nova, Muraitak appeared before him in the form of his brother Zorr, telling him to abandon the path of violence. In addition, Muraitak referenced Namorita/Kymaera, cluing Nova to his true identity. Having caught his breath, Nova renewed his assault, ultimately defeating Kraa. Muraitak told Nova that the other Centurions would soon be arriving with a containment vault for Kraa and that they would wish to detain Nova for his criminal disobedience. Having witnessed Nova's valor in combat (and being too weak to try to stop him anyway), Muraitak told Nova that he should be free to choose his own course of action. Muraitak realized that he would catch some heat for letting Nova go, but it was worth it to have a clear conscience.
