History: (Savage Sword of Conan I#46) - Sagayetha was a Shaman who succeeded in assembling several tribes of Picts and convincing them to massively attack the Aquilonian bordermarks.
(Savage Sword of Conan I#46 (fb) - BTS) - Sagayetha was secretly allied with Lucian, Governor of Conajohara. Sagayetha would pay Lucian with the treasure of the Picts stolen from Fort Tuscelan and Lucian would let the Picts conquer Schohira, uncaring of the massacre. Edric, one of the Aquilonian scouts, kept the contacts between the two leaders.
(Savage Sword of Conan I#46) - Sagayetha, well-informed by Lucian, led the Picts to attack a company of Aquilonian and Bossonian archers, led by a Captain, Conan of Cimmeria, sent there by Lucian. Sagayetha scared the enemies, having his snakes attack the soldiers. The Aquilonian soldiers were killed or fled. Conan managed to flee with lieutenant Flavius.
Later, in the night, Sagayetha gathered the warriors under the "Rock of the Counsel". There he assembled Picts of different tribes and assured them about their near victory reminding them of the pact with the Viscount Lucian. Sagayetha paid Edric with a big coffin of gold, the money of Valannus, stolen from Fort Tuscelan, unaware that Conan and Flavius were hidden near the Rock and saw everything.
The day after, the Picts marched through the forest but, on sunset, found the defenders blocking their path on a river. The Picts, numerically superior and without the help of Sagayetha, attacked but were hold back, then retreated.
That night Sagayetha wanted to repeat the same strategy used some days before. In his tent, he prepared the rite. He introduced his soul in a snake, a viper, preparing to command the snakes for the attack. His body stood still. Right then, Conan sneaked in his tent. Sagayetha/viper bite Conan who beheaded the snake. Sagayetha's soul returned to his body. The Shaman prepared to launch a curse but Conan was faster and cut off his head with a single slash of his knife. Conan took his head.
Later, while the Picts were attacking and had still conquered half of the river, Conan stabbed Sagayetha's head on a spear and led the counter-attack on the Picts. The news that Sagayetha was dead spread across the Picts ranks and the trend of the battle changed, they were deeply defeated.
After this overwhelming victory, Conan was promoted to General and requested to Tarantia by King Numedides.

I'm quite sure that Shohira was a region, and
not a town, but it existed in the vicinity of a town called Shondara, in the lands at south
of Velitrium and Fort Tuscelan.
Why "Moon of Blood"? Because a lot of blood was shed when the Pitcs
attacked by night? Because of the full red moon painted on Sagayetha's head? I
didn't read the original novel by Carter & de Camp.

Lucian was a normal human. Lucian was Governor of Conajohara, Viscount and General of the Army.
After the fall of Fort Tuscelan, Lucian became Governor of Conajohara, but other men, nearer to Tarantia, wanted that position of power. Lucian needed a lot of money to bribe other men and keep his position. So he betrayed the Aquilonian Army, convincing also Edric to deal with Sagayetha to give Shohira to the Picts.
As a form of assurance, Lucian sent a company of soldiers, led by Conan, and an inexperienced Captain, Arno, into a trap. Edric was the scout of the mission. The trap worked but Conan and Flavius managed to flee and discover the plot. Sagayetha payed Edric, giving to him a big coffin full of gold, the pay of Fort Tuscelan.
At Velitrium, Edric was captured by Conan, Flavius, Laodamas and Glyco while he was transporting the coffin to Lucian. Edric confessed.
Conan, Flavius and other soldiers then went to Lucian's palace. They found him while Hermius was shaving him and accused him to be a traitor. With a sudden jump Lucian put Hermius and Conan away and managed to escape.

Arno was a normal human. He was a Captain in the Aquilonian Army, probably of a company of Bossonian archers.
Arno did not know the frontier. His men and he were joined with Conan's company, the Golden Lions, by Lucian, and sent to the frontier to fall in an ambush of the Picts.
Arno understood that Conan was more experienced by him, so after few days let him command.
At the first attack of the Picts, the Bossonians and the rest of the company defeated the Picts. But the second attack, by Sagayetha's snakes and then more Picts, broke their lines and they were massacred. Arno died with his men.
--Savage Sword of Conan I#46
Flavius was a normal human. He was a lieutenant in the Golden Lions, a regiment of frontier of the Aquilonian Army.
Flavius was part of the Conan's company sent to discover what the Picts were doing in the frontier lands. But none of them, with the exception of Edric the scout, knew that Lucian, the General, sent them there to be killed by the Picts.
Conan, Arno, Flavius and the company of about 100 men,
succeeded in holding back the first assault of the Picts, but shortly after, the
drums started to roll and the snakes attacked. The soldiers panicked and run
away, then the Picts pursued them and killed everybody. Flavius was taken apart
by Conan and managed to flee.
Conan led them to the Rock of the Counsel, sacred land for the Picts. Flavius
and Conan hid in the reeds near the Rock, and on night, the Picts assembled
there to party the victory. Then Flavius and Conan could watch Edric be paid by
Sagayetha. Conan translated some Sagayetha's words for Flavius.
Later, when the Picts slept, Conan and Flavius went back to Velitrium. There
told everything to Glyco and Laodamas.
Shortly before the dawn, they waited to the dock of Velitrium on the Thunder
River. They intercepted Edric, captured him and the coffin with the gold for
Lucian.
In the morning, with a dozen of men, they went to Lucian palace and accused him of betrayal, but the General escaped.
Then they had to defend Schohira from the attack of the Picts. The first attack of the Picts was hold back. Then Flavius saw Conan leave to go and kill Sagayetha. After few hours Flavius saw Conan again with Sagayetha's head. He followed Conan in their ride against the Picts. Conan fell, unconscious, but Flavius and the other soldiers slew the enemies.
Flavius and the other soldiers asked to the King to promote Conan as commander of the legion. Laodamas was contrary but they convinced him.

After the victory, Conan promoted Flavius to Colonel, then left for the Capital.

Glyco and Laodamas were the firsts to hear about the Lucian's betrayal.
Glyco helped Conan to ambush Edric and his men and take the coffin of gold for Lucian. He also went with Flavius and Conan to accuse the General, who fled. After, Conan asked the soldiers to follow him in battle to defend Schohira. Glyco trusted him but not in his men, who were afraid of the snakes and Sagayetha's magic.
Glyco and his men fought the Picts, dispite the numeric inferiority. Then, after Sagayetha's death, won the battle.
(Savage Sword of Conan I#201 (fb) - BTS) - Glyco was promoted to Captain.
(Savage Sword of Conan I#201) - Fifteen days after the victorious battle of Velitrium, General Conan led his legion against the Pictish Clan of the Crow, in the "Second battle of the Field of the Slaughter", Glyco and Flavius were there. After the victory, Conan left for the Capital.

Laodamas was a normal human. He was a officer at the garrison of Velitrium and had noble blood.
Glyco and Laodamas were the firsts to hear about the Lucian betrayal. Laodamas was no so sure to accuse his Commander.
Laodamas, Glyco and Flavius helped Conan to ambush Edric and his men and take the coffin of gold for Lucian. Laodamas didn't trusted Edric and tried to defend Lucian but Conan booed him. He followed the choice of the men.
Later he participated to the battle. Conan left to go and murder Sagayetha and lent to Laodamas the leadership of the Aquilonian forces. The picts started to attack, despite the snakes not helping them, but Laodamas didn't charged them, because honor forced him to wait until the enemy was gathered in one only army. Conan came back in time, fooled Laodamas and led the Aquilonians to the victory.
Some days after, while Conan was unconscious for the venomous bite of a viper, Laodamas wanted to become the new Commander of Velitrium, but the soldiers voted for Conan and asked King Numedides to confirm the promotion. Laodamas wanted to challenge Conan in duel.
